Job description
- Analyzes and interprets data from various sources using standard statistical analysis software.
- Prepares reports, charts, and tables summarizing data and analyses.
- Maintains expertise in statistical and analysis methods.
- Capable of providing consultative service to investigators (e.g., methodology, design, analysis, sample size and power calculations).
- Consultative functions:
o Generate statistical reports for consistency, data quality and data integrity
o Prepare locked/frozen data set and documentation with data dictionary
o with project investigator, specify equations or algorithms for derived or constructed variables
o Obtain and develop expertise using secondary data sources (e.g., MDS, NDI, HRS, NHIS, claims data)
- Analysis and Reporting Functions
o Prepare tables (of publication quality) summarizing descriptive statistics and analyses
o Prepare graphics (of publication quality) summarizing descriptive statistics and analyses:
o Complete analyses as directed by investigator or supervisor
o Prepare written description of samples/populations
o Independently identify and complete appropriate analyses
o Prepare written descriptions of analyses
o Prepare complete manuscripts on methodological or substantive research
o Make presentations of results at local and national meetings
- Statistical and Programming Functions
o Advanced programming (macros, custom programs) in R, SAS, STATA etc.
- Professional and Management Functions
o Maintain expertise in state-of-the-art statistical and analytic techniques
- The above covers the most significant responsibilities of the position. It does not, however, exclude other duties, which would be in conformity with the level of the position. Completes special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Typically requires a master’s degree in statistics or biostatistics (or very closely related field such medical statistics, biometrics, medical informatics, biopharmaceutical statistics), and 3 years of experience in a related field. Appropriate experience may substitute for academic training in specific cases.
- Requires proficiency using standard statistical software (e.g., SAS, R) to write programs to perform statistical analyses and prepare graphical displays of data.
- Must be professional, proactive, collaborative, conscientious and results-oriented individual. Must have an optimistic and positive demeanor, excellent oral and written communication skills, good intuition and able to adapt to changing priorities and display good, sound judgment with a sense of humor.
- Superb organizational skills. Must have solid analytical skills. Must be creative and proactive yet disciplined, discriminating and able to streamline work volume in order to maintain bottom line efforts in midst of multi-tasking and daily re-prioritizing. Must have ability to innovate, think strategically and conceptually, manage multiple projects simultaneously and handle even difficult situations.
- Must be motivated to learn and flexible to change.
- Computer literacy required; experience with databases, MS Office.
- Ability to learn reproducible document production (e.g. LaTeX, Markdown) is required.
