Job description
Provides installation, repair, and maintenance of various steamfitting systems, equipment, and components throughout the district. Performs work in a manner that: iensures the efficient use of district resources; promotes a positive and productive team environment; and provides safe and high-quality educational environments for students, staff and patrons of Spokane Public Schools.
HOURS PER DAY: 8- YEAR ROUND POSITION (260 DAYS / 12 MONTHS)
- ANTICIPATED START DATE: ASAP
- Benefits-Medical/Dental/Vision through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) are provided for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year.
- Additional benefits may include vacation, sick, personal days, and paid holidays.
- Most positions have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary schedule, all in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreements as negotiated.
SALARY: LEVEL 7 on the Plumbers and Steamfitters Salary Schedule. Experience increments depend on experience in the same or similar permanent position within a Washington State public school.
Responsibilities:
Use all hand and power tools necessary to cut, thread, weld, solder, or otherwise connect and install gas, air, and heat piping.- Install valves, controls, traps, and components required in the installation or repair of gas, air, and heat piping.
- Install pumps, heat exchangers, hot water heating systems, and boiler piping.
- Maintain and repair piping, tanks, and pressure vessels for fuels (steam, water, air, gas) and draining systems.
- Install, service, repair, and adjust burners, pumps, ejectors, heat exchangers, and coils.
- Service, adjust, calibrate, maintain, and operate equipment needed as related to the indoor air quality equipment.
- Read and interpret plans, blueprints, and sketches.
- Construct, lay out, or plan piping assemblies.
- Construct various types of pipe joints for high or low pressure systems including threading, bracing, soldering, and welding.
- Perform all work in compliance with local, state, and federal standards, regulations, and codes.
- Maintain, operate, and repair all refrigeration and air conditioning systems.
- Maintain and repair pneumatic, electric, and electronic control systems.
- Maintain and repair boilers and burners.
- Observe safety rules and regulations.
- Follow district procurement card and purchasing policy.
- Ability to use computers and technology related tools and applications; use email, Microsoft Teams for work collaboration, virtual meeting platforms, cell phones and various mobile applications.
- Perform related duties as requested by supervisor.
- Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
- Journeyman having completed recognized apprenticeship.
- Ability to perform all steamfitter services as described under performance responsibilities. Must have commercial journey level steamfitter service experience. Preferred institutional and large facility experience.
- Hold valid EPA certification 608, type universal.
- Valid City of Spokane Heating Mechanic II license or must be able to obtain a Heating Mechanic II license within six months of employment.
- Hold a valid 06A electrical license.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
- Demonstrated safety record and ability to work in a safe manner, following safety procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the various regulations and mechanical codes.
- Demonstrated knowledge and training with Energy Management Systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to operate and service or maintain steam and hot water boilers and their burner controls.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to operate and service or maintain air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, including chillers.
- Demonstrated ability to read and follow plans, blueprints, sketches, and/or instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to use computers and technology related tools and applications; familiarity with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook for email and Microsoft Teams for work collaboration.
- Ability to carry out directions with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to relate and work positively and effectively with a diverse group of co-workers and staff in a confidential manner.
- Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.

When employees meet plan requirements and retire, they are guaranteed a monthly benefit for the rest of their life from the employer-funded pension.
