JOB SUMMARY:
The Program Specialist is responsible for the implementation of STEM programs and activities including but not limited to preparation, set-up, implementation, and clean-up. The position has excellent interpersonal skills, is a team player, enjoys working in a dynamic environment and makes exemplary customer service a priority. Additionally, the Program Specialist enjoys working with children and working outdoors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This list may not include all of the duties assigned):

Assists with planning, designing, and implementing of STEM workshops for Girl Scouts during the academic year and during the summer.

  • Assists with planning, designing, and implementing of STEM programs for field trips as assigned.
  • Create student-centered learning environments that encourage inquiry, productive failure, and risk taking.
  • Remains fully, actively, physically present, and hands-on every minute of event to assist in set-up, implementation, and clean-up after the event.
  • Assist with the regular maintenance of STEM program equipment, tools, and machinery as needed.
  • Demonstrate a professional growth mindset with regard to professional and technical skill development as evidenced by a willingness to try new projects in advance of weekend workshops, field trips, and camps; attend local professional skill building workshops or conferences.
  • Responds to related emails and calls within 48 business hours.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service.
  • Maintains professional appearance and interactions at all times.
  • Manages multiple tasks at one time and demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks Willing to work additional programs and events based on demand, time of year and facility needs.

  • Willingness to embrace assigned tasks outside of job description.
  • Must be able to travel within established geographic areas and council service centers, as necessary.
  • Attends all staff and team meetings.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions as required.
  • Maintain a –Tuesday - Saturday position with some flexibility on days depending on programming.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS—Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA’s)*

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • 1-3 years in formal / informal education or related field is preferred.
  • Has experience working with children.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and changing conditions
  • Demonstrate and promote a climate of courtesy, respect and professionalism to coworkers, the volunteers served by this council, and others with whom her/his job puts her/him in contact.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

The employee must be able to drive and have a valid driver’s license. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Activities occur both inside and outside and employee is subject to both environmental conditions; however, employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
