Advisor - Student Financial Aid

General Statement of Function
Based at the main campus in Goodman, MS. Responsible for awarding and verifying outside aid such as Mississippi State-Aid, Sumners Grant, and other programs and duties as assigned. Maintains records and responds to students regarding financial aid eligibility requirements in accordance with applicable regulations.

Job Description
  • Responds to inquiries in person, via e-mail or on the phone; provides direction to students and their families regarding financial aid eligibility and/or processes.
  • Reviews award reports and inquiries to determine eligibility for MS State Aid, Sumner’s Grant, and other award programs. Enters awards in Banner crediting students accounts.
  • Responsible for posting MTAG awards to student’s accounts. Reviews prior to scheduled disbursement date, verify awards weekly through reports. Validate that ineligible awards are returned.
  • Process Sumner applications forwarding to the Sumner Foundation for approval. Upon approval, post to student’s account, maintaining up to date database.
  • Verify enrollment status and GPA requirements are met prior to disbursement.
  • Disburse funds on scheduled dates. Validate for discrepancies.
  • Validates completeness of files in accordance to State guidelines.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Associate’s degree preferred.

High school diploma/GED and
2-3 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified may be considered as a substitute for degree requirement.

  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
