The Student Engagement Specialist reports to the Career Services and Leadership Development Coordinator. This position is responsible for advising and assisting student leaders in the development and implementation of a coordinated program of activities for students, including social, recreational and educational-based programs.
Responsibilities:
Serve as the Advisor for Student Government Association
- Oversee the election of the Executive Board and Senator appointments, orientate members of Executive
- Meet with and advise student leaders on an on-going basis regarding development and implementation of programs, activities, issues, concerns, ideas, etc.
- Participate in meetings and conferences with student representatives, including District Board meetings.
- Attend Wisconsin Student Government meetings monthly with students, including the Legislative
- Identify vendors, make all purchases, and monitor expenditures of funds.
- Serve as a facilitator for information between SGA, Career Services and Leadership Development Coordinator, and College Administration.
Coordinate allocation and use of activity fee money.
- Advise, coordinate, and provide leadership to the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee (SAFAC).
- Formalize the process for distributing funds through the SAFAC process.
- Maintain fiscal responsibility and ensure fair and equitable allocation and disbursement of funds to student organizations and related activities.
- Monitor revenue generated by student activity fees.
- Monitor and approve expenditures by student organizations and other student activity fee funding recipients.
- Work closely with Accounting and College Leadership to adhere to budgetary deadlines within the college.
- Stay up to date with federal, state and district policies and regulations for collection, allocation and use of
student activity funds.
Advise, monitor and coordinate student clubs and organizations.
- Update student organization materials and maintain ongoing communication through various college-wide communication methods (i.e. MyBTC Portal, email, social media, print materials, etc.)
- Facilitate the ongoing recognition, renewal, and maintenance of student clubs and organizations.
- Provide ongoing training to student organization advisors and student leaders.
- Monitor expenditures and income of student organization funds.
- Develop and administer student organization/advisor evaluation process.
- Distribute, review and approve student organization advisor contracts, and administer allocation of advisor compensation.
- Approve and assist with coordination of all Student Organization events, programming, and travel.
Provide oversight and programming for the Student Commons, IDEA Lounge, and Multi-Purpose Room.
- Expand upon, plan, and facilitate all Student Commons programing and events.
- Create, facilitate, and maintain multi-cultural programing for the IDEA Lounge.
Coordinate a variety of co-curricular and student events and programs to support student life.
- Assist in the development of co-curricular program evaluation tools for student life.
- Cross-collaborate with various campus departments to organize, plan, and promote co-curricular events and activities.
- Plan and coordinate student life events to enhance student social engagement, professional development, and service learning, including but not limited to Winter Carnival, Backyard Bash, Title IX awareness, etc.
- Assist in development and oversee relevant marketing strategies and initiatives directed for student events.
- Oversee student workers and interns in student life areas.
- Develop and promote fitness and wellness programing.
- Develop and oversee co-curricular assessment for student life.
- Collaborate with the Career Services and Leadership Development Coordinator to provide career services programing and events.
Oversee the BTC Student Cupboard
- Recruit and oversee the Friends of the Cupboard committee.
- Order food from Second Harvest and report monthly to Second Harvest on Cupboard usage.
- Work with Caritas to ensure we are meeting MOU agreement.
- Maintain the Student Cupboard budget that resides in the Foundation budget.
- Recruit, train, and supervise work-study and volunteers.
- Organize fundraising opportunities for the Cupboard.
- Promote the Student Cupboard to students and staff.
- Verify students are eligible for the Student Cupboard.
Promote and coordinate the Student Awards Ceremony.
- Plan and conduct the annual awards program, including promotion, food, tickets, decorations, awards presenters and floor plan for ceremony.
- Coordinate nomination process with faculty and staff.
- Collaborate with student leaders, faculty and staff on plans for the award ceremony.
- Screen all award nominations to ensure they meet eligibility requirements.
In coordination with the Executive Director of Student Services develop and maintain extra-curricular intercollegiate, recreational, and intramural sports programs.
- Assist with creating and updating sports materials and maintaining ongoing communication through various college - wide communication methods.
- Facilitate the ongoing recognition, renewal, recruitment, and maintenance of sports.
Assist in the planning of other college-wide student engagement events.
- Develop, plan, and implement of Smart Start days.
- Represent student life at recruitment and admissions events.
- Organize hall guides at the beginning of each semester.
- Attend all student activities and special events to ensure that all district policies, local, state and federal laws and safety procedures are enforced.
- Represent BTC at statewide Student Life meetings and attend professional development opportunities.
- Serve on a variety of College wide committees representing student life such as Graduation, Co-Curricular, and IDEA committees.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong communication skills verbal and written, including public speaking.
- Strong computer skills including use of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in management and development of a budget.
- Strong background in creating collaborative working relationships.
- Knowledge of programs and services available through the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) and familiarity with procedures related to admissions and enrollment.
Education & Experience:
- Associate Degree in relevant field.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse group of people including students, faculty, and administration.
- Experience in a higher education field desired.
- Experience with budget management.
