Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno Chemical Waste Management Facility has an opening for a student worker 1. The Hazardous Materials Technician, under the direct supervision of the Manager, Environmental Affairs, supports the day-to-day operations of the University of Nevada, Reno Chemical Waste Management Facility.
Note: If selected, Technicians must pass an initial hazardous materials physical examination, and must complete a 24-hour, OSHA-compliant Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response training course within 6 months of hire date
Responsibilities
Technicians are responsible for:

Picking up hazardous/universal/special wastes and surplus chemicals from various on-campus and affiliate locations

Technicians shall complete all tasks and participate in all safety training courses assigned by supervisor

The technician shall be capable of physically managing waste containers from pick up to storage, and maintaining associated waste management records

Technicians will also support senior staff in special RWP or EH&S projects or other tasks as directed

Technicians must pass an initial hazardous materials physical examination, and must complete a 24-hour, OSHA-compliant Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response training course within 6 months of hire date

Candidates must be enrolled at the University of Nevada, Reno

Candidates must have a valid Class “C” Nevada driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Schedule
Hazardous Materials member will work as much as needed, not to exceed the maximum hours permitted for student employees by UNR regulations.
Expected hours to work per week: 15-20
Work will only be conducted during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, anytime between 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
