Substance Abuse Counselor

General Description:

ECLI-VIBES is searching for a passionate and trauma-informed Substance Abuse Counselor. As an integral piece to our Counseling department, this individual will be responsible for providing counseling needs for substance abuse-affected families, especially those who are involved in the court-system. The ideal candidate will have experience working within the substance abuse population and is dedicated and passionate about eliminating the national opioid crisis. We prefer for this individual to have an understanding of the court system (particularly Suffolk County) and possess the skills necessary to work in a collaborative environment. Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical evidence-based therapy in individual, family, and group modalities to a caseload of adults and children/adolescents with substance use or co-occurring diagnoses.
  • Work collaboratively within ECLI-VIBES and with community partners to help meet the needs of families affected by substance abuse..
  • Assist with data collection, data evaluation, and program reporting.
  • Become well-versed in trauma, generational trauma, vicarious trauma and the effects of trauma on the body and brain.
  • Become knowledgeable in gender, racial and social justice issues including marginalized communities and systemic oppression.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Credentialed through an approved NYS alcohol counseling program and certified as a NYS Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor required.
  • Maintains yearly educational requirements set forth by OASAS to allow for timely renewal of credential
  • 1-2 years experience providing direct services to diverse populations

ECLI-VIBES uses a survivor centered and trauma-informed approach to provide comprehensive high-quality services to all survivors and trauma. In an effort to stabilize the survivor, staff will connect and access resources that address safe housing, food insecurity, and safety needs by guiding and empowering the survivor in navigating the system and understanding their rights. The short-term goal is to address the symptoms of trauma. The long-term goal is to address the underlying issues (compound trauma) in an effort to break the cycle of oppression and violence for good.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 per year
