Summary:
Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and controls the activities of one of three shifts within the Respiratory Care Services Department and the Pulmonary Laboratory. Responsible for respiratory care operations in each of the hospital campuses including the critical care units and the emergency departments. All Shift Supervisor positions have 24/7 responsibilities and provides supervision of the Pulmonary Function Technologists and the Respiratory Care Practitioners, including scheduling, staff assignments, adjustment of staff levels, and daily operations. Selection, maintenance, and quality assurance of equipment, procedures, and supplies. Monitors expenses and revenues. Monitors the care that is provided by staff. Acts as a liaison between Respiratory Care and other departments, patients, families, and medical staff. Demonstrates Service Excellence and follows all of Summa’s policies and procedures.Minimum Qualifications:
1. Formal Education Required:
a. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
b. Graduate of an A.M.A. approved program for Respiratory Therapists
2. Experience & Training Required:
a. Three (3) years of increasingly responsible respiratory therapy experience which has provided leadership skills; adult critical care transport and emergency room experience preferred.
b. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
c. BLS and ACLS certified.
d. Ohio Respiratory Care Practitioner license is required
e. Intermediate human resources management skills as evidenced through prior supervisory training and experience

a. Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.
b. Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills needed to maintain constructive working relationships within the department
c. Technical skills are required to adapt equipment to patient needs and troubleshoot equipment
d. Analytical skills are required to effectively meet the needs of patients, families, and members of the healthcare team on a regular basis
e. Intermediate desktop computer skills required to communicate electronically, work with word processing and spreadsheet applications, clinical information management systems, and system design
4. Level of Physical Demands:
a. Sedentary: Exerts up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
b. Regular movement around the hospital campuses, moving equipment and supplies.
c. Assumption of patient care responsibilities, including, moving patients safely.
