Job Description:
The Supplier Quality Engineer is an integral part of the quality and supply chain teams at Thomas Instrument. This role is in charge of ensuring timely and accurate receipt and shipments of inventory. The successful candidate for this position will improve our ability to deliver quality parts from our external vendors to operations. They play a key role between Quality and Supply Chain to ensure timely flow of on time release of inventory. They will work on improving our flow down control, supplier quality performance, and document corrective actions to improve our supply chain performance alongside our procurement team.
Job Responsibilities:
Provide technical advice and guidance as a subject matter expert to suppliers to reduce defect rates and improve quality assurance.
Deliver results as measured by key metrics, such as supplier OTD (On Time Delivery), DPPM (defective parts per million), SCAR (Supplier Corrective Action Request), and COPQ (Cost of Poor Quality) improvements
Develop positive relationships through site visits and work closely with Supply Chain Team to manage, implement, and track supplier/engineering design changes and NPI projects
Performing regular quality control audits to drive improvements utilizing Lean methodologies, Statistical Process Control, supplier scorecards, ensuring supplier compliance with company and federal standards.
Establish and maintain control plans and inspection standards to assure critical features are controlled through the supplier production processes
Reviewing incoming supplies and products from vendors to check for defects and ensure quality.
Conducting tests and assessments on products to identify quality issues.
Maintaining detailed reports on supplier quality, including defect rates
Serving as a liaison between our company's senior management and the vendors to identify quality issues and come up with solutions.
Perform root cause analysis, coordinate, and conduct specialized testing and measurement, and resolve quality concerns that escaped into operations and customer feedback.
Plan, organize, direct, and report all activities and matters relating to supplier performance. Assess supplier qualifications including training and certifications
Keep up with current and developing manufacturing and engineering trends that concern product quality
Provide actionable and concise updates on Supplier Quality issues to Senior Leadership
Job Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, economics, science, or logistics preferred but not required (or commensurate Supply Chain experience).
Minimum 3 years’ experience in Engineering, Quality, or Manufacturing
Understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings as it relates to the technical aspects of manufacturing and engineering
Understanding manufacturing, material flow, process change, and quality processes
Experience with manufacturing and production processes and engineering principles.
Excellent communication and liaison skills.
Strong problem-solving and data analytics skills
Strong ownership spirit
Work well in a team-based environment
Act with a Continuous Improvement (CI) mindset: focus on improving efficiencies while decreasing waste.
Possess good listening skills
Ability to organize and prioritize work
Experience Preferred:
Ability to multitask and prioritize accordingly despite change in scale, scope or deadline in a fast-paced environment
Proven experience in developing suppliers
Provided guidance to improve process efficiency.
Direct experience collaborating with engineering and/or manufacturing operations
Ability to work on own initiative and knows when to seek guidance
Strong organization skills with meticulous attention to detail
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel
background in supplier quality, experience a plus
ASQ – SQE Certification, preferred
Experience with Global Shop Solutions (GSS) a plus
Experience in the Aerospace and Defense industry (A&D) a plus
