Join Ophthalmology Associates & LASIK Center’s team as a Surgery Scheduler. This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week.

Job purpose
This individual is responsible for assisting the patient with all aspects of pre-operative preparations in order to promote patient confidence in their medical care and to make the surgical experience as smooth as possible; acts as a liaison between the office, surgical facility, patient, and primary care physician. Also works as front desk receptionist and is responsible for all front desk duties.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic typing, English, and mathematical skills.
- Medical experience preferred.

Surgery scheduler duties and responsibilities
- Acts as an effective liaison between the patient, surgeon, primary care physician, and the surgical facility in all aspects of pre-operative preparations.
- Schedules all patient surgeries and pre-operative appointments, including those with the patient’s primary care physician, surgical facility, ophthalmologist or technician.
- Schedules post-operative appointments as appropriate.
- Arranges interpreter if needed.
- Notifies patient of all scheduled appointments.
- Prepares surgery charts.
- Sends appropriate H&P forms/labs to primary care physician.
- Collects all pertinent information for upcoming surgery, such as bookings, lens orders, insurance, H&Ps, and signed consent forms, and transfers to surgical facility.
- Answers all telephone inquiries from patients, their families, or primary care physicians concerning surgery and/or related concerns.
- Checks with insurance department prior to scheduling if prior authorization is required.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
- Backs-up front desk as needed.
- Helps with break/lunch rotations.
Medical receptionist duties and responsibilities
- Greets patients as they arrive for their appointments, checks-in and checks-out patients, verifies and enters all patient demographic and insurance information into computer system.
- Scans insurance cards into computer system.
- Provides patient with all patient registration forms and has patient sign all necessary insurance and HIPAA forms.
- Scans photo ID.
- Attaches all necessary correspondence to fee ticket.
- Places fee ticket in specific physician’s or technician’s bin.
- Monitors physician and technician bins to verify patient is seen in a timely manner and keeps patient notified.
- Schedules appointments by telephone and in person, follow-up appointments at check- out, and reschedules appointments when doctors’ schedules change.
- Schedules appointments with other clinics/specialists for patients when needed.
- Answers the phone in a friendly and timely manner and transfers calls to the appropriate department.
- Answers general billing/insurance questions; if further assistance is needed, transfer calls to billing/insurance department.
- Takes messages for technicians, doctors, and all staff if they are not available for phone call.
- Opens, sorts, and delivers mail to appropriate department.
- Enters patient payments/copays into computer system.
- Schedules interpreters for patients’ appointments as needed.
- Verifies interpreters are confirmed for all appointments.
- Follows opening and closing duties.
- Assists with patients’ refunds.
- Reviews, scans, copies, and distributes office correspondence.
- Faxes/mails outgoing letters/correspondence.
- Prints schedules for next days’ appointments for front office and technicians.
- Assists in storing incoming supplies.
- Travels to satellite clinics if required.
- Performs other duties as required.
