Position Overview

PROPEL and Level Up are LCPS programs, school-day and after school, designed to close the opportunity gap and support students who are historically underrepresented in advanced academic programs. PROPEL and Level Up programs are in 10 elementary schools (PROPEL), 6 middle schools (Level Up). The Level Up Resource Teacher will collaborate with the team and develop appropriate curriculum, provide professional development for the PROPEL and Level Up teachers, and conduct site visits at the Level Up schools. The resource teacher will work with Department of Instruction staff, Science staff, and school based staff to provide support and resources that deepen students’ knowledge, skills, and habits of mind that characterize science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; and that align with and support the LCPS vision of Culturally Responsive Instruction and Deeper Learning for all students.


Responsibilities

The Level Up Resource Teacher will:


  • Develop teachers’ content and pedagogical knowledge in STEM by offering ongoing and sustained professional learning experiences.
  • Create resources for the programs that align to the LCPS Culturally Responsive Framework, and that foster a welcoming, inclusive, and affirming environment for all students.
  • Coach Level Up teachers and model teaching practices that support student learning in STEM and are aligned to LCPS initiatives..
  • Develop curriculum for Level Up that focuses on deeper learning for all students, specifically in the area of computer science and Math.
  • Assist Level Up students in their preparation for participation in STEM competitions.
  • Working with LCPS Division Instructional Facilitators to create student STEM experiences that align with LCPS instructional initiatives.
  • Observe and support teachers with curriculum implementation during the school day and after school program.
  • Meet regularly with teachers to provide guidance and feedback.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of summer STEM camps.

Qualifications


  • Postgraduate Professional License in elementary or secondary education required;
  • Five years of experience in the elementary or secondary school classroom
  • Experience in STEM education
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
  • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications, excellent human relations skills

Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
