The Technical Director with Disney Live Entertainment at the Walt Disney World Resort leads technical production efforts related to the development of live entertainment shows and product offerings, including parades, stage shows, and special events for Worldwide Disney Parks and Resorts locations.

The Technical Director will report to the Principal Technical Director

Responsibilities/You Will

• Develop, lead, and mentor crew and technical/production planners while promoting company-wide standards and efficiencies
• Participation in creative development and coordinating/partnering with local and government authorities responsible for legal code compliance, including safety, engineering, permitting, and ADA.
• Coordinate bid processes and vendor selections with contracts and procurement and manage vendor efforts including design development, construction
• Interact with other party’s fabrication, shipping, installation, and buy-off teams.
• Supports and consults on maintenance, design, and mounts of new shows
• Provides ongoing Entertainment Show Quality evaluations as part of the implementation and operational planning
• Maintains project files, tech logs, design documents, bid packages, schedules, and punch lists.

Basic Qualifications/You Will Have

• Minimum 5 years of experience in Technical Theater or Live Show Entertainment
• Proven knowledge and understanding of the operation and artistic application of a wide variety of show systems and technology, including audio, special effects, puppets, lighting, show control systems, video, facilities, and rigging
• Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with the entertainment industry’s innovative technologies
• Proven experience with facility design, engineering, and construction
• Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to express creative ideas
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, and meet deadlines
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Demonstrated leadership, partnering, and strategic planning skills
• Highly motivated requiring minimal direction and follow up
• Strong computer skills (Outlook, Microsoft Suite, AutoCAD)
• Proven track record to support the creative process by collaborating with other designers, directors, writers, and producers
• Ability to be flexible with work schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and travel
• Willingness and ability to travel internationally frequently for extended periods of time

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years of experience in live show development
• Proven business management experience
• Proficient in some or all of the following engineering subject areas: structural, mechanical, electrical, software, safety
• Fluency in other languages is a plus

Required Education

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Technical Theater with a focus on technical design, construction, and production

Preferred Education

• MS or MA in Technical Theater or equivalent with a focus on technical design, construction, and production
