Job description
The Maintenance and Site Services (MSS) Division is a multidisciplinary organization whose primary mission is to provide the Laboratory-both nuclear and non-nuclear facilities-with safe, reliable, and efficient infrastructure maintenance and utilities support.
The Maintenance and Site Services Work Control (MSS-WC) Group is seeking highly motivated Technical Project Manager (TPM) to work with group management in coordinating, directing, and facilitating diverse portfolio of maintenance projects ranging from: facility maintenance procedural writing/planning, project development and executing needed technical capabilities, and/or planning and establishing future procedural project needs.
The successful TPM-2 will:
- Report to the Work Control responsible manager for regular performance reporting, including tracking project technical scope, schedule, and cost parameters.
- Manage and support projects specifically designed to enhance the Work Control procedure development and implementation including policy procedures, IWDs, Instruction sets, work orders and any other type of work management documentation.
- Provide technical and operational support to designated maintenance personnel as assigned and assist in coordinating and managing project accounts.
- Regular interactions with high-level internal and/or external customers to negotiate and define goals, deliverables, and resources.
- Regular contact with all levels of Laboratory management and staff to manage project, scope, schedule, and budget.

Knowledge and Expertise
Proficient-level knowledge of and experience developing and maintaining project plans; program work scope, schedule, budgets, priorities, and performance milestones, managing change control, and managing risk. Demonstrated expert-level ability to develop effective customer and stakeholder relationships; interacting with all levels of external and internal personnel; building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts.
Planning/Scheduling
Proficient-level experience planning and defining project scope through collaboration with subject matter experts, maintenance managers and senior project managers. Working knowledge and experience in supporting tactical planning and execution of moderately large and/or complex technical projects. Demonstrated experience successfully coordinating multiple operations, balancing resources, and priorities, and tracking a complex procurements.
Leadership
Proficient-level experience supporting projects with requirements development, traceability, and requirements maintenance. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team in a multi-discipline environment. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a variety of organizations.
Accountability
Experience working with confidential or proprietary information or sensitive information. Proven ability to successfully plan, organize, lead, and monitor a wide variety of team efforts to completion.
Communication
Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational, and presentation skills. You must have experience developing clear, concise, and informative reports, presentations, correspondence, and other written materials.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Management or a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of the Earned Value Management System (EVMS):
- Experience working with maintenance teams on large projects.
- Familiarity with LANL Reporting tools.
- Experience with resource management including budgets, staffing, procurement, and quality assurance.
- Broad knowledge of Laboratory programs, policies, and organizations.
- Expert-level knowledge of regulatory and Laboratory requirements related to the assigned project.
- Active DOE Q Clearance.
Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
- Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
