The purpose of this position is to help resolve issues surrounding the City’s computer network and systems.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides technical support identifying, investigating, and resolving user issues with computer software and hardware specific to the City’s computer networks and systems.
  • Assists in the troubleshooting of technical issues reported, including software, hardware, communication, or network‐related issues with end users.
  • Administers and supports business and enterprise applications.
  • Collaborates with other employees to research and resolve routine issues.
  • Collaborates with system and network administrators to explain errors and/or recommend modifications to systems and networks.
  • Arranges service by software or hardware vendors to repair or replace defective products.
  • Maintains current knowledge of technology innovations and trends.

Supplemental Functions:

  • Performs other similar duties as required.

Job Specifications and Qualifications:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of computer software, hardware, and procedures
  • Methods, tools, and techniques of testing, troubleshooting, problem solving, and maintaining hardware and software related to computers, mobile devices, audio visual, network, and communication systems.
  • Technical support
  • Knowledge of technology innovations and trends

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

  • Positions in this class require: standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, fine dexterity, reaching, pushing/pulling, lifting, vision.
  • Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, or negligible amounts constantly and/or walking or standing to a significant degree.
  • Incumbents may be subjected to wetness and/or humidity, extreme temperature.

  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn a broad array of networking and systems hardware and software.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.


Required Experience


Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related field of study from an accredited college or university, with at least one (1) year of relevant experience; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

Municipal government experience preferred.
