We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated professional to fill the position of Technical Writer 3.

The Technical Writer writes and/or edits technical documents, including business proposals, reports, manuals, briefings and presentations, guidelines, and other project deliverables to meet contract requirements. Researches and gathers technical and background information for inclusion in project documentation and deliverables. Consults relevant information sources, technical documents, and project personnel, to obtain background information. Supervises technical writing efforts. Reviews and edits documents developed by others to ensure accuracy and quality of content, organization, language, format consistency, and conformance with established standards; works with technical staff to develop documentation requirements; develops outlines and drafts for review and approval by technical specialists and project management; and ensures that final documents meet applicable contract requirements and regulations. Verifies pertinent guidelines and regulations governing project deliverables.

What you Will Do

  • Prepare Department of Defense (DoD) Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) documentation in accordance with Data Item Description (DID) instructions and ensure the documentation meets/exceeds Military and Civilian Standards as required by contract documents.
  • Researches, prepares, and edits complex technical documents for publication, including user’s manuals, training materials, installation guides, minutes, proposals, and reports.
  • Review, research, and edit information for preparation of contract deliverables.
  • Ensures documents meet editorial and customer specifications and adhere to standards for quality, graphics, format, and style.
  • Interfaces with writers, illustrators, word processors, and subject matter experts in coordinating/preparing the edited draft for publication.
  • Participates in the creation of proposals and multi-media presentation materials.
  • Proofread material prepared by other technical writers.
  • Provides guidance and work leadership to less-experienced technical documentation staff members.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant technology as assigned.
  • Participates in special projects as required.
  • Be able to obtain a security clearance or already have an active security clearance.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, or work experience.
  • Technical writing experience working with DoD program documentation.
  • Proficient English grammar skills. Ability to outline, write, and edit technical papers and documentation.
  • Technical knowledge of information systems (hardware/software)
  • Proficiency with desktop software such as Microsoft Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Word.
  • Proficient written and oral communications skills and problem-solving/decision-making skills.
  • Familiarity with Department of Defense military standards, rules, and regulations as they pertain to project management, documentation deliverables, government contracts, and project execution.
  • Familiarity with Configuration Management.
  • Must possess a task based/schedule driven mindset.
  • Ability to meet schedule timelines.
  • Ability to work independently and multi-task.
  • Experience with Oxygen and Arbor Text a plus.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES AND OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the organization’s products and services, customer requirements, purpose and structure of required documentation, and end user’s level of understanding.
  • CMMI or other business methodology of process improvements standards.
  • Possess an understanding of Agile Scrum/Kanban project management.
  • Familiarity with risk management, cybersecurity, and risk management framework.
  • Performance Work Statements (PWS) Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs or DD FORM 1423), Data Item Descriptions (DIDs).
  • Military standards of structured authoring and basic ability in at least one of them; for example, MIL-STD-40051-1C/2C, MIL-STD-38784A, or S1000D.
  • Commercial standards of structured authoring; for example, DocBook or DITA.
  • Strong computer software skills and the ability to adapt to new software/enterprise tools easily.
  • Adept at using specific tools, software to perform the job.
