The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Technician B to join our team in a full time position to work within the division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. Our Clinical, Translational and Basic Science research features collaborations across specialties and stretches from the bench to bedside. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing research support and performing administrative tasks related to the study and to our study team.

Responsibilities

Organize lab and projects (maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies, prepare stock reagents, management of lab expenditures).

Maintain mouse lines (colony maintenance, genotyping, mating, administering treatments to genetically-modified mice to induce esophageal inflammation).

Dissect mice to isolate tissue-specific protein and mRNA that will require analysis by RT-PCR and western immunoblotting, and isolation of tissue and cells to be set in sections for histopathology and immunofluorescence staining and viewed by bright field and confocal microscopy.

Culture cells (2D and 3D culture systems) using both mouse and human cell lines and primary cells.

Obtain informed consent from study participants, attend endoscopy visits to obtain biopsy and peripheral blood samples, and carefully follow study protocols and scripts.

Processes human samples for eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases biorepository as well as isolating protein and mRNA, and isolation of tissue to be set in sections for histopathology and immunofluorescence staining and viewed by bright field and confocal microscopy.

Complete all necessary paperwork and data documentation, including coding and cleaning data forms, and data entry and tracking.

Maintains a positive relationship with the study team, clinical staff, and participants, and acts as a study resource.

Work with senior level staff (i.e. administrators, directors, chiefs, clinicians) at research study sites to negotiate/implement/monitor research protocols.

Provides assistance and coordination to various lab research projects.

Attends study team meetings and trainings.

Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology or physics or a completed animal husbandry program or equivalent in education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of various related laboratory procedures and techniques preferred.

At least one year of experience of in a laboratory setting (does not include undergraduate research experience).

Facility with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Graph Pad Prism.

A minimum of a two-year commitment.

Experience with REDCap and EPIC.

Must feel comfortable with the handling and dissection of laboratory mice as well as working with human biopsy and blood samples.

Proficiency with written and spoken English.

Some evening and weekend work hours.
