Qualifications

PECO is looking for individuals with backgrounds in electro-mechanical maintenance with the ability to advance to the journeyman level. Individuals must be able to perform preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance tasks on high voltage transformers, circuit breakers and associated substation equipment and controls in a safe manner. Additional duties include the construction, installation & modification of electrical equipment; operating and blocking of substation equipment; work planning & coordination; and secondary distribution storm restoration. Position will require working extended hours, including 24x7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies. It is required that the individual can advance to first class journeyman level, and work independently as needed in a high performance team atmosphere.

Primary Duties and Accountabilities:

1. Follow all safety rules and procedures along with verbal and written directions from supervision.

2. Perform preventative, corrective, and predictive maintenance tasks on transmission-class and distribution-class electrical substation equipment, including troubleshooting of AC/DC control systems and electro-mechanical systems.

3. Install and construct substation transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, bus work and associated control wiring.

4. Safely operate transmission-class and distribution-class substation equipment such as transformers, disconnect switches, circuit breakers, switchgear breakers and associated auxiliary equipment.

5. Plan, prepare and coordinate work using established processes and a variety of computer software.

6. Respond to call/outs/emergencies/storm duty on a 24 x 7 basis, and perform shift work and overtime as needed.

7. Seek out and adopt new innovative technologies.

Requirements:

1. High School Graduate or Equivalent

2. Graduate of a Trade School, Technical School, or Military Program with documented Electro-Mechanical Systems Training OR 2 years minimum experience as a certified Journeyman Electrician (Apprenticeship program completed) OR graduate of an accredited 2 year Electrical/Mechanical Engineering Program

3. Hold a valid driver's license

4. Can read & interpret wiring and electrical schematics and diagrams

5. Ability to learn to read and interpret mechanical drawings & equipment instruction books

6. Ability to work at heights to sixty feet or more from ladders, aerial man lifts, bucket trucks, scaffolding or on top of transformers; and work in severe weather conditions

7. Ability to gain unescorted access at nuclear plants

8. Maintain Fitness For Duty standards per company guidelines

9. Ability to obtain a Transportation Workers Identity Card (TWIC)

10. Ability to obtain a CDL (class B) license and a Pennsylvania drivers medical card

11. Ability to use MS Windows based computer programs

Preferred:

1. Familiarity with Transformer and Circuit Breaker test equipment such as Power Factor Testers, Breaker Timers, Gauge Calibration Testers, Transformer Winding Testers, etc

This position will work at substations across the entire PECO territory. Field offices are located in Phila, Plymouth Meeting and Eddystone.
