POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: The Club at Bayfield- Healthy Lifestyles Coordinator

PERFORMANCE

REPORTS TO: The Club at Bayfield- Summer Program Director

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Club at Bayfield -Character & Citizenship Coordinator is responsible for using the resources of the organization and community to provide character & citizenship programs for Club members consistent with the organization’s youth development mission and goals. The Coordinator also sets an example demonstrating Club Values, has a high level of communication with parents and community partners, focuses on program development and implementation, measurement outcomes and actively participates in all Club meetings.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

General Program Duties

Plan, implement and supervise Character & Citizenship programs and activities to increase members’ participation in service, character building, and positive life choices.

2. Create activity plans and monthly activity calendars that align with the Formula for Impact

3. Track and evaluate character & citizenship programs and activities and accurately report on those programs to the BGC Club team, grantors, and Board members

4. Participate in program/service outcome measurement processes and other evaluation programs including BGCA’s annual evaluation for Commitment to Quality and Formula for Impact. Ensure quantitative and qualitative measurements are developed and implemented to ensure quality and effective programs

5. Contribute to the creation of a positive climate for youth development in the Club; encourage emotional, social and educational growth of individual members

6. Provide effective outreach to youth in schools and within other areas of the community.

7. Supervise, instruct and direct varied activities for all ages as needed. Assist with daily events for Club members of all ages and provide support for daily operations as needed

8. Establish a program setting that insures the health and safety of members

9. Plan and lead special field trips and outings; recruit participants

10. Develop special events focused around member and community engagement –Days of Service, Back to School, etc.

11. Organize and coordinate special events to support fundraising

12. Carry out requests and follow directives issued by Program Director; perform other related duties as specified by the Program Director.

Leadership

1. Attend and participate in all staff meetings

2. Participate in professional development activities as appropriate

3. Initiate contacts within the community to form relationships and open lines of communication to communicate purpose and results of the Healthy Lifestyles Programs

4. Provide guidance and role modeling to Club members and staff.

5. Uphold the Club Values at all times

6. Exercise authority in negotiating solutions to problems with members using guidance and discipline plan

7. Exercise independent judgment and take initiative within general policy guidelines.

Management

1. Provide leadership and direction to junior staff (LITs) and volunteers to ensure they develop the ability to carry out the Club’s youth development mission through impact programs

2. Ensure YDP staff, parents, and volunteers understand character & citizenship program goals, objectives, and policies

3. Use management, negotiation and problem solving skills to work with other YDP staff to collaborate about programming, guidance and operations.

Strategic Planning

1. Oversee identification and evaluation of opportunities to improve program effectiveness based on participation and achievement of stated goals; recommend modifications to improve program performance, as appropriate.

Resource Management

1. Supervise care and maintenance of department equipment, supplies and facilities. Maintain cleanliness of program area(s).

2. Assist in the creation of the program budget, monitor expenses and adhere to the budget guidelines

Partnership Development

1. Develop collaborative partnerships with other youth serving organizations, members, parents, families and community organizations.

Marketing and Public Relations

1. Participate in activities to maintain public trust in Boys & Girls Club programs, services and activities.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. May assist in the administration of grant funded programs by ensuring the completion of required reports

2. Assist with severe discipline issues when necessary

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal:Maintain close contact with Program Director and other program staff about overall Club operations and program activities. Read and answer emails and voice messages promptly.

External:Provide adequate communication with parents and Club families. Positively interact with external community groups, organizations, schools and others.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred
  • A minimum of five years work experience in youth development preferred.
  • Knowledge of youth development strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, direct and measure program effectiveness

· Experience working with youth in grades K-12. Enjoys working with youth 6-18.

· Ability to motivate youth and handle behavior problems effectively

· Strong computer skills; proficient using MS Office tools

· Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback as necessary

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and develop solutions with limited supervision
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, staff members, community groups, and other related agencies
  • Ability to complete mandatory CPR & First Aid certifications if not currently certified
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check

Hand-eye coordination is necessary to perform certain duties. The noise level in the work environment can range from quiet to moderate in office settings to moderate and usually loud in recreation and play settings when children are present.

All employees working directly with children at all Summer program locations are required to work outdoors in various types of weather conditions.

PAY RANGE: $20-$25 hour (DOE)

SCHEDULE: Full Time 6/5/23 to 7/28/23 with training and orientation in advance

EXPECTED HOURS: MON-THURS 7:30AM-5:30PM
