Thermal Analysis and Design Engineer - Human Landing System (HLS)
Job description
In anticipation of NASA awarding the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) contract in the near future, Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a Thermal Analysis and Design Engineer for the Space Division’s Propulsion and Fluid Systems Department to promote HLS and other programs as part of a diverse team that develops lunar landers, other cislunar spacecraft, and a wide range of critical technologies for civil, military, and commercial space programs.
The candidate will boost the thermal analysis of thermal and mechanical systems and various test activities for the Dynetics Human Lander System (HLS) program. The position requires use of analytical methods, finite element models/simulations, finite difference models/simulations, and other analysis tools to produce models, perform analysis, calculations, data reduction, and correlate test results to thermal and flow models. This analysis will include detailed steady state and/or transient thermal analyses utilizing standard industry programs. Additional assignments will include working closely with the design activity to refine mechanical designs based upon the thermal analysis results.
Basic Qualifications
- The candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university with a 3.0 or higher GPA.
- At least 4 years of technical work history in the field of thermal and fluid system engineering and analysis – direct space-flight experience preferred
- Candidate is required to have proven working knowledge with any of the commercial thermal analysis or CFD tools (e.g., Thermal Desktop/SindaFluint, ANSYS, SolidWorks FlowSimulation, etc.).
- Candidate will be able to write technical reports and present data to a multi-disciplined team.
- The position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.
Other Qualifications
Having the following qualifications and/or work history is a plus:
- Aerothermal analysis
- Cryofluid management design/analysis
- Charring and ablation prediction
- Fluid lumped capacitance modeling
- Electronics cooling analysis
- Thermal analysis of orthotropic materials
- FEMAP/Nastran
- Coupled thermal-mechanical analysis
- Mechanical design using Solidworks/CREO 3D CAD Software
Knowledge and work history with both metallic and composite materials is a plus. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential for the team environment. Candidate should have good organizational skills and be detail-oriented.
