Under the direction of the Vice President of Human Resources, the Title IX Coordinator is responsible for planning, organization, and implementation of Curry College's institutional compliance with federal and state regulations regarding discrimination and/or harassment of a sexual or gender-based nature. A particular emphasis is placed on sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking in compliance with Title IX, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), and other federal and state laws and regulations. The position provides leadership, direction and supervision for all of the College's Title IX efforts, including ensuring that all members of the campus community are well informed about their rights and responsibilities under Title IX, which prohibits sex and/or gender-based discrimination in all educational programs and activities. A collaborative work environment has contributed to the development of an effective support system that helps to respond to off-hour incidents. The Title IX Coordinator is supported by the Dean of Students, Assistant Dean of Students, Community Directors, Public Safety, and various Deputy Coordinators.

Essential Functions:

1. Compliance and Oversight:

  • Assist Public Safety, Human Resources, Community Standards & Accountability, Athletics and other offices to effect compliance with Title IX and the Clery Act, including the preparation and dissemination of the College's Annual Security and Fire Safety Report;
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Title IX Deputy Coordinators, Legal Counsel, and other colleagues and constituents across the College to oversee investigations and training requirements;
  • Serve as a liaison both internally and externally to develop working relationships with other departments, local law enforcement, legal representatives, and victim advocacy organizations to ensure appropriate policies, procedures, and memoranda of understanding are in effect.

2. Investigations and Complainant Support:

  • Meet with complainants reporting sex-based discrimination, including sexual assault, to provide information regarding available resources and reporting and resolution options;
  • Oversee investigations into alleged sex-based discrimination by or against students, faculty and staff;
  • Evaluate confidentiality requests from complainants in order to provide a safe, nondiscriminatory environment for all students and employees, and evaluate Clery Act reporting requirements;
  • Track the implementation of supportive measures and remedies to address complaints and identify systemic problems to inform prevention programming.

3. Trend Analysis:

  • Track and analyze complaints, assessing and addressing trends in reporting or climate concerns;
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of regular campus climate surveys.

4. Policy Development, Communication, and Training:

  • Develop, maintain, implement and communicate the College's sex/gender discrimination and sexual harassment policies;
  • Ensure dissemination of notices of policies and Title IX Coordinator contact information in compliance with the Clery Act and Title IX;
  • Manage and coordinate the efforts of the College's designated Deputy Title IX Coordinators and work collaboratively with them to promote informed and consistent communication with all campus constituents about related policies and implementation;
  • Develop and implement educational initiatives and tracking mechanisms for faculty and staff training, including providing training for new employees and ensuring compliance with ongoing training requirements by all mandated employees;
  • Ensure training for all mandatory reporters, internal Title IX investigators, hearing officers, Student Affairs staff, Human Resources staff; Title IX training for student leaders and student employees; and posting of training materials in compliance with Title IX.

5. Committee Oversight and Participation:

  • Chair the College's Title IX Steering Committee;
  • Supervise the Sexual Assault Prevention Peer Educators;
  • Supervises the Sexual Assault Prevention Educator staff position;
  • Serve on other relevant campus committees.

Additional Functions:

  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the VP of Human Resources.

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree
  • A minimum of five to seven years of relevant experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively deal with a variety of individuals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in application of Title IX regulations, relevant laws, and compliance issues; experience in conflict resolution, investigations, and grievance procedures; demonstrated ability to work with confidential information and manage complex and highly sensitive situations; and experience in developing and presenting workshops.
  • Ability to follow-up, follow-through, multi-task, set priorities and adhere to deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advance degree in relevant field or Juris Doctorate.
  • Experience in a higher education institution.
