SUMMARY

Alaska Industrial Hardware, a subsidiary of Bering Straits Native Corporation is looking for a reliable, self-motivated, well-rounded repair mechanic who is experienced and not afraid to use their expertise to trouble-shoot mechanical issues. The employee for this position will have had experience repairing items such as heaters, pressure washers, and nail guns. They will also have had experience with preparing and recording all logs of what they have repaired. If this sounds like you, we would like you to apply for the Mechanic in our Tool Repair Center. The Center is located in South Anchorage at the 8801 Old Seward Highway location.

Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform all repairs on equipment brought in by customers as required, using OSHA approved procedures
  • Carry out preventative maintenance on customer's equipment
  • Use the computer system to track and record equipment that is worked on
  • Assist the Fulfilment Center to pull orders when needed
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION
Required (Minimum) Qualifications
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have a strong mechanical maintenance background with references
  • Must have valid AK Driver’s license and safe driving record
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must be capable of learning to use a computer system to track customer transactions
  • A high degree of attention to the task at hand to prevent injury to self or others, as well as company property
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures and properly use all safety gear
  • Ability to read and write English and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be capable of safely handling multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Possess a sense of professionalism, responsibility and pride in work
  • Ability to follow directions from supervisors and seek assistance when needed
  • Ability to work well and clearly communicate with others

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be physically able to be on your feet, standing, walking, and working on hard concrete and tile floors for full shifts
  • Must be capable of exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 31 to 40 pounds of force frequently and up to 30 pounds constantly to move objects
  • Must be able to work effectively in all temperature ranges and subject to ambient weather conditions
  • Frequent bending, reaching overhead, kneeling, and squatting
  • Frequent pulling and stocking inventory items onto carts, or with material handling equipment
  • Possess the proper situational awareness to work safely in a warehouse environment where you and others are using and operating forklifts, pallet jacks, packaging machines, ladders, box cutters and other potentially dangerous equipment and tools

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Job is performed in an indoor repair center setting and warehouse environment
  • Exposure to computer screens and requires use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • No supervisory responsibilities

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, you are required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable references and background check. Must have reliable transportation to/from work.
