Position: Transit/Transportation Planner
Location: This position is ideally located on the West Coast, but we are open to a remote position for the right candidate.
The Opportunity
Walker Consultants seeks a transit/transportation planner to join our mobility and curb management practice.

You’ll join a dedicated team working with a variety of clients (cities, transit agencies, metropolitan planning organizations, hospitals, airports, universities, developers, and others) on cutting edge projects to plan for the future of transit, manage curb space, and provide more sustainable mobility options for people. This includes planning transit around a system of solar microgrids to power electric bus fleets and local resiliency/mobility hubs.
You’ll have an opportunity to directly test ideas, shape policy, and see your plans implemented. At Walker we go beyond planning, we guide implementation.

Job Description

You’ll be working with our National Director of Curb Management and New Mobility and our planning team on a range of projects including the following:
  • Planning transit around a cutting-edge system of transit solar microgrids and local resiliency/mobility hubs
  • Working with transit agencies on planning, policies, and funding, including testing new innovative sustainable solutions such a zero emissions transit fleets and autonomous shuttles
  • Consulting on curbside management planning and policy including assisting with a major curb management research study with over ten cities and zero emissions loading zones
  • Providing transportation/traffic engineering expertise on curb space management
  • Assisting and/or leading stakeholder and community engagement activities
  • Researching best practices
  • Preparing technical reports, memos, and other documents and leading the preparation of project deliverables
  • Assisting with business development activities including writing proposals and participating in interviews
  • Supporting and managing projects and communicating directly with clients, maintaining relationships with clients
  • Presenting our work to clients, the public, and the transportation industry.
Projects are located in California and across the country with some travel.
Qualifications and Requirements
We are looking for candidates that have a background in transit planning.
  • 3 or more years of experience in transit planning and/or transportation planning
  • A bachelor’s or more advanced degree in planning, transportation planning, transportation engineering, or a related planning field. Master’s degree is preferred
  • Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and critical thinking skills
  • Experience managing projects and/or studies
  • Ability to analyze large data sets and provide technical analysis
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and GIS.
  • Additional experience with graphics (InDesign, Illustrator, SketchUp), or database and statistical analysis.
