The Jacobs Virginia and DC Transportation team is searching for a motivated Roadway Engineer who can utilize their excellent technical and design management skills to deliver highway-related infrastructure projects. You will be leading our production team and managing the plan production and construction documents assembly.

When you join us, you’ll have the opportunity to work on multi-disciplined transportation projects that focus on highways, roadways, and interchange projects. You will serve as a Roadway Design Engineer/Production Lead on transportation projects throughout the Virginia/DC/Maryland geography to perform preliminary and final design engineering and prepare documentation to satisfy the requirements for local and State roadway projects for our regional transportation top clients such as the Virginia DOT, DDOT, Maryland SHA, and local county and city governments.

You’ll be part of our regional Digital Delivery team which leverages state-of-the-art technology to improve delivery efficiency and productivity at a scale and provide training to our design/production team.

We’d look to you to provide technical expertise on all aspects of highway design projects including design-build transportation projects. You’d perform work with the preparation of roadway design using local (State, County or City) and/or AASHTO standards at both conceptual, preliminary and final design levels. Also, you’d develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid and construction packages.

As a Roadway Engineer, you’ll grow professionally with the opportunity to coordinate with all complimentary disciplines (roadway, drainage, structural, traffic, public involvement and environmental), technical preparation and supervision of civil and roadway design tasks, perform plan quality reviews, participate in value engineering studies.

You’ll be coordinating activities of design engineers and technicians to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget. Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance as well as maintain a close relationship with management and track upcoming project opportunities and collaborate on project pursuits.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering
  • Proficiency and prior experience of using MicroStation and OpenRoads
  • 3D modeling experience using MicroStation/OpenRoads and/or AutoCAD/Civil 3D
  • Working knowledge of ProjectWise.
  • Substantial professional project experience associated with the highway market sector and with large transportation infrastructure projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated track record of roadway design experience with VDOT. Knowledge of VDOT design standards and design criteria is required.
  • Experience in transportation design work with an emphasis on roadway/highway and geometrics final design.
  • Strong technical design background in roadway and drainage, as well as expertise with AASHTO, FHWA and MUTCD standards.
  • Previous experience working on alternative delivery (Design-Build and PPP) major transportation projects is preferred.
Ideally, you’ll also have:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Professional Engineer or ability to obtain in the near future.
  • Building Informational Modeling
  • Previous Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) experience and understanding of VDOT policies and procedures.
  • Actively engaged in professional organizations.
