POSITION SUMMARY:
The Bailiff and Process Server of the Tribal Court shall be responsible for the security and service of process for the Wilton Rancheria Tribal Court under the direction of the Tribal Court Director and the Chief Judge.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a Bailiff, this position shall:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with judges, attorneys, Wilton Rancheria members and community;
- Screen persons entering courthouse using provided equipment to collect and retain any unauthorized contraband;
- Ensure compliance with Tribal Court rules;
- Assist Court staff as needed in carrying out the Courts business to promote and ensure smooth hearings;
- Attend Tribal Court proceedings to ensure safety for all participants; and
- Ensure all Tribal Court proceedings are executed in accordance Wilton Rancheria Code.
As a Process Server, this position shall:
- Receive papers to be served from the Court Director, Court Clerk, or Self-Help Clinic and execute service in accordance with Wilton Rancheria Code;
- Use public records to locate persons to be served and deliver documents;
- Record place and time of delivery; and
- Complete and file Proof of Service forms in accordance with Wilton Rancheria Code.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Must have demonstrated experience in exercising sound professional judgment;
- Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals;
- Access to reliable transportation, no vehicle will be provided;
- The ability to work independently and efficiently;
- The ability to navigate directions in rural or remote areas;
- Able to understand and maintain confidentiality of communications;
- The ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints; and
- The ability to utilize professionalism and diplomacy with those who may be experiencing
- high degrees of stress.
- Registered Process Server (or willing to complete California registration process);
- Knowledgeable of Tribal law, customs, and traditions, or willing to become knowledgeable;
- POST Certification (preferred); and
- High School Diploma or equivalent.

Applicants must clearly outline that they meet the qualification requirements on their Letter of Interest. Submissions must be received by April 30, 2023. Wilton Rancheria Courts will enter into independent contractor agreements with the successful applicant(s). Native American Preference will be applied.
