As an Underwriting Assistant, you will be a team player within the Cyber and Technology team and will perform critical tasks that directly support our underwriters. You will perform underwriting support activities associated with information gathering and account management for new business, renewals, and midterm changes. You will also prepare electronic files on behalf of the Underwriter regarding basic deal structuring, risk analysis, and quoting related to underwriting transactions (renewals, non-premium bearing midterm changes, etc.).
You will utilize your communication and relationship building skills as you work closely with other Underwriting Assistants across regional offices, Middle Office and Underwriting managers and interact directly with various business partners, including but not limited to, brokers, clients, finance, legal, claims and others in our XL Catlin global network. You will be engaged in ongoing development of your knowledge of commercial insurance related to your specialized line of business. After enjoying success in this role, when you're ready for your next challenge, this position has the potential to lead into other opportunities such as Senior Underwriting Assistant, Global Risk Specialist, Team Leader, or Underwriter. There are also positions in other AXA XL units such as Reinsurance, Actuary, IT, Premium Accounting, Data Integration and Global Quality.
What will your essential responsibilities include?
- Pre-underwriting activities, evaluating risk, and assessing completeness of the underwriting submission materials before underwriter is required to review.
- Acting as liaison and communicating directly with brokers and internal and external contacts on behalf of the Underwriters by maintaining accounts to ensure implementation progress, such as promptly returning phone calls/emails.
- Managing the workflow of multiple tasks and maintaining a detailed understanding of the status of various tasks owned by Underwriters, Brokers, Reinsurers, AXA XL internal network and Fronting Partners around the world.
- Proactively problem-solving to balance and manage client/broker expectations with internal service standards.
- Collaborating closely with Underwriters, Product Management, Legal and Regulatory as necessary to perform pre-bind activities and to confirm policy issuance instructions and manuscript wordings, regulatory notices, certificates, etc.
- Assessing when it is necessary and performing quality control of coding and issuance output to ensure accuracy of work (e.g. exposure bases, limits, coverage extensions, modifications, data entry, etc.).
- Creating and maintaining electronic file for accounts as required for Sarbanes Oxley and Internal Audit Guidelines.
- Potentially participating in projects where the Unit may be requested to provide Subject Matter Experts related to the Underwriting Support Unit.
- Utilizing the SalesForce platform, ensuring accurate and timely input of information critical to the needs of underwriting team for the purpose of work tracking, productivity and service delivery.

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
- Bachelor's degree and some commercial insurance experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in policy issuance as well as knowledge of forms for products serviced.
- Administration of assigned accounts throughout the lifecycle.
- Collecting account and insured information for risk analysis by communicating directly with brokers on behalf of the underwriters.
- Experience with Salesforce platform.
- Client Service experience is a plus.
- Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel), Internet Explorer and Adobe Acrobat (or similar PDF conversion tool).
- Experience with standard office equipment (e.g., copier, fax, printer, scanner, etc.) and office practices (e.g., data entry, certified mail, task tracking, documentation, etc.).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills in order to work effectively and professionally with diverse groups.
- Proven organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Proven prioritization and time management skills with accurate results.

The pay range for this position is $ 46,500- $83,000. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience, and location. We strive for market alignment and internal equity with our colleagues’ pay.
