Job Description:

Function: The Underwriting Assistant supports various underwriting and operations processes, including communication with outside agents, as well as internal departments in support of the underwriting process for current and prospective clients.


What you will do for C&F:

  • Ensure policy transaction are rated, booked, invoiced and issued accurately and meet the corporate time service standards.
  • Assist the Underwriter by identifying new business submissions that fail to meet class and acceptability guidelines.
  • Screen transactions to determine proper processing.
  • Refer transactions to underwriters that require their approval, complete transactions directly if within delegated authority limits.
  • Assist underwriter in following up for subjectivities.
  • Communicate with Accounting and Reinsurance departments to answer policy questions and resolve issues.
  • Work with system support to test releases when the verification of successful programming involves a review of the production environment.
  • Ensure underwriting files are orderly and complete by electronically printing document into the imaging system, page mark and label the documents appropriately, adhering to the corporate protocols.
  • Review renewals and update account information and exposure changes on a timely basis to allow the underwriter adequate time to prepare timely delivery of conditional and non-renewal notices to the appropriate parties.
  • Communicate with producer to obtain information needed to complete transactions.
  • Contribute to service excellence by answering producer questions regarding policy status and insurance inquires.

What you will bring to C&F:


  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Possesses strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Proficient computer skills and use of Microsoft Office Program (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Proficient with internal software applications needed to succeed with job duties.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
