The Georgia Mountain Community of Big Canoe®, between Jasper and Dawsonville, Georgia, as it stands today, started in 1972 when it began to be developed. They named the property Big Canoe® because the site was once inhabited by Cherokee and Woodland Indians whose history, combined with the quiet mountains, all relate to the canoe.
Today, the Property Owners Association (POA) owns the common amenities, roads, Sconti Clubhouse, Canoe Lodge, recreational facilities including Golf, Wellness, Swim Club, Racquet Club and the Marina, and maintains and operates these facilities.
Big Canoe is seeking an energetic and experienced Utility Technician! Ideal candidates have previous experience. Positive attitude is a must!
POSITION SUMMARY
The following job description details the scope of responsibility and specific requirements regarding the position of Utility Technician. The Public Works Manager and/or Public Works Supervisor have the authority to add to, take from, or change the scope of responsibilities as necessary to properly manage the day-to-day operation of the Big Canoe Property Owners Association (POA).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Diagnose and repair kitchen equipment, HVAC equipment, electrical issues, etc.
- The Utility Technician will possess working knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, and light carpentry tools and equipment in addition to ensuring all are kept in good working order
- Work with all other departments as needed
- Perform traffic control duties including sign and cone placement and flagman responsibilities associated with traffic control
- Use proper PPE
- Perform prevention maintenance on equipment (HVAC, refrigeration, etc.)
- Assist in installation of equipment, electrical services, plumbing fixtures, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- High School diploma or GED required
- Must possess EPA certification or willingness to obtain EPA certification
- Reliable and steady work performance history
- Possess a clean MVR and valid driver’s license with ability to drive in all types weather and road conditions
- Continuing education on modern technology
- Must possess EPA Certification
- Position requires employee to be competent to understand written/oral instruction from Public Works Supervisor and/or Department Manager
- Provide excellent customer service to residents, co-workers and other departmental personnel
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Assist in other departments/areas when needed
- Assist in storm clean-up
- Assist in treatment and plowing of roads
- Help with traffic control
- Must be available for after-hours call-ins including holidays and weekends
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENT
- Will be working outdoors (rain, snow, extreme heat/cold, etc.)
- Will be working at heights above 20 ft.
- May encounter wildlife during daily duties
- May have to work in high stress situations
- May work 2-3 hrs. between breaks
- May require standing, bending, kneeling, twisting for long periods of time
- Must be physically able to lift 100 lbs.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $20.00 per hour
