Vacuum Facility Development Engineer - Human Landing System (HLS)
Job description
In anticipation of NASA awarding the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) contract in the near future, Dynetics, a wholly owned subsidiary of Leidos, is seeking a Vacuum Facility Development Engineer to support HLS and other programs as part of a diverse team that develops lunar landers, other cislunar spacecraft, and a wide range of critical technologies for civil, military, and commercial space programs.
The Vacuum Facility Development Engineer will support the Dynetics Space Systems Division with design, analysis, procurement, test, and integration of key components and subsystems of the steam eductor system for the main engine vacuum test facility. The individual will serve on a fast-paced design team focused on design and development of critical propulsion related hardware. The individual will work with the interdisciplinary engine team to integrate their components into the vacuum facility design and conduct testing to ensure the hardware meets overall performance requirements. Candidates must be familiar with cryogenic liquid rocket engine systems and vacuum test systems. The individual will interface with project managers, mechanical designers, component engineers, test engineers, safety, and quality within Dynetics.
Basic Qualifications
- Candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.
- Candidates will have 0-2 years of work history designing and constructing hardware for liquid rocket engine applications within budget and schedule constraints.
- Candidates will understand fluid mechanics and thermal, flow rate, and mass requirements as well as component designs for liquid rocket engine vacuum test applications. Candidates will be able to write clear, concise, and comprehensive technical reports and present results to multi-disciplinary teams and customer stakeholders.
- Candidates will have knowledge in communicating both verbally and in writing.
- Candidates will be able to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a multi-disciplinary engineering team to conduct development testing, perform trade studies, and develop analysis and evaluation tools.
Candidates must be residents of the North Alabama area or be willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
Other Qualifications
Preferred candidates may possess a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited institute. Preferred candidates may have work history and/or knowledge of the following:
- Steam eductor designs, issues, and solutions
- Supersonic diffuser designs, issues, and solutions
- Vacuum system designs, issues, and solutions
- Development testing experience in a fast-paced environment
- NASA, DoD, or other aerospace development projects
- Project planning and scheduling using Microsoft Project
- Performing as an individual contributor within a short time period
Security Requirements
Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.
