Community Care Network is looking for a Veteran Peer Services Specialist to join our team!

About the Role:
The Veteran Peer Services Specialist is an interprofessional team member who empowers veterans with emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges and/or substance use disorders. This is a dynamic role building on one's own knowledge and experience as a veteran to provide highly individualized services, promoting self-determination, goal-setting, wellness, personal responsibility and the empowerment inherent in self-directed recovery. Services provided consist of therapeutic interventions that facilitate safety, stability, symptom self-management, use of natural supports, and use of community resources. Services will be provided at, the agency, in the home, and community-based when necessary.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Serves as a recovery agent by providing and advocating for effective wellness and holistic, recovery-oriented services with the goal of helping veterans achieve improved health, wellness, and quality of life through a change process
- Assists veterans in identifying their strengths, abilities and needs and articulating personal recovery goals through the use of individual or group meetings and telecommunications
- Provide appropriate therapeutic and crisis interventions for veterans in collaboration with a mental health professional.
- Encourages veterans to develop new and/or re-establish positive, personally meaningful relationships
- Supports by providing ongoing information, referrals, linkages, and advocacy for other identified needs where appropriate and guides veteran to receive needed services through the agency, VA, and other community providers
Qualifications:
- Must be a veteran and willing to identify as a veteran
- Bachelor's degree in related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Possess 1-2 years of a combination of mental health work experience and training to perform principle responsibilities
- Working knowledge of mental illness and substance use disorders including clinical and developmental issues
- Knowledge of services, systems, and programs available to the VA, in the community including primary health care, support services, eligibility criteria, intake processes, generic community resources, mental health, and substance use treatment programs
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Outlook required
- Excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing, and able to maintain confidentiality
- Must have a valid driver's license, reliable transportation with personal automobile liability insurance coverage at or above the levels mandated by the State of Vermont
- *Successful completion of a criminal history background check after hire.
