Zapata Technology is seeking a cleared person holding a Secret clearance to become a Very-Small-Aperture Terminal (VSAT) Satellite for Communications (SATCOM) Operator Trainer at Camp Pendleton.
Salary Range:
75K-79K
Essential Qualifications:
Fully capable of setup, establishing network connectivity of systems in the field via VSAT SATCOM communications. Requires Secret clearance to start, with TS/SCI eligibility, Security+ certified. Basic ability to use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign strongly desired. MUST like to write and to train. MUST be a quick learner — You WILL be required to learn a variety of systems to become fully functional as an elite MCTSSA team member.
Job Qualifications:
Qualifications and Skills include:
- Must be able to set up a very-small-aperture terminal (VSAT) satellite for communications (SATCOM) terminal, connect it to a network, and keep it operational.
- Intermediate analytical and troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and consistent resolution of VSAT and network IT problems.
- Must have a Security+ certification or higher.
- Open to learning new technical skills. Will be expected to learn with on-the-job training:
- Imaging and configuring laptops that connect with the VSAT.
- Operation and use of the USMC Digital Media Systems (DMS) Public Affairs Live Media Engagement System (PALMES).
- Operation and support of Marine Civil Information Management System (MARCIMS) and Command Individual Risk and Resiliency Assessment System (CIRRAS) and other information management systems.
- YOU will become a trainer on these systems.
- Experience working with customers, addressing issues, and managing customer concerns and requests over the phone and/or in person.
- Strong active listening, data entry, and documentation skills.
Desired Skillsets:
- Knowledge of USMC Communication Strategy and Operations (COMMSTRAT).
- USMC Public Affairs support experience.
- Preferred SATCOM experience with Tampa Microwave terminals.
Education/Experience include:
- No degree required.
- Appropriate years of experience: 2-3 minimum. Your experience and ability must stand out in a technical interview that will focus heavily on your knowledge of VSAT operation and ability to troubleshoot and to maintain relevant SATCOM networks used by the US Marine Corps.
Essential Functions:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Train Fleet Marine Forces (FMF) to set up, configure, operate, troubleshoot, and maintain the DMS system.
- Provide units with over-the-shoulder DMS support.
- Assist units to troubleshoot and connect the DMS VIAS workstation to the internet.
- Assist units to access the iDirect Web GUI for the PALMES system.
- Assist units to acquire DMS software and licenses.
- Expected to learn and support MARCIMS and CIRRAS and other information management systems.
- Interface with FMF personnel and US Government employees to provide break/fix support to USMC tactical networks in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
- Research questions using available information resources: technical manuals, operating and administrator guides, fleet advisory messages (FAMs), and internal approved knowledge base(s).
- Identify and elevate situations requiring urgent attention.
- Understand and troubleshoot basic computer configurations.

Requires a Secret Security Clearance to start. Must be TS/SCI eligible. Employment is contingent on having or obtaining the required active security clearance as well as other factors, including, but not limited to, drug screens.
