Job Description
Under supervision; assists with the operation of wastewater treatment plants; operates and performs minor maintenance on wastewater treatment plant equipment and related accessories. Performs other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.
Completion of a high school equivalent education supplemented by coursework in wastewater treatment. Must possess a Class A, I, II or III Wastewater Treatment Operator’s License issued by the State of Ohio.
Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license.

An employee will be exposed to the various hazards associated with wastewater treatment plant equipment, related pumping equipment and chemicals, under all types of weather conditions. Must be able to travel to and access various work sites.

- Requires various types of physical exertion, such as prolonged bending, stooping, and lifting, walking on uneven terrain, ice, snow, mud and driving vehicles and/or equipment for long periods of time
- Employee is required to reach with hands and arms, climb, and balance, move, and carry objects weighing up to 75 pounds repeatedly from one location to another
Licensing/Certification

Description of Job Duty
The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification.
Operates a variety of wastewater treatment facility equipment (e.g., chlorination unit, bar rack screen, detritors, vacuum filters, incinerators, tertiary treatment devices, etc.) used in the treatment of sewage; oversees the performance of aeration and settling tanks, comminutors primary tanks.
Takes samples at various stages of the treatment process; analyzes samples and records results related to treatment process control; measures amounts of dissolved oxygen in settling tanks; reads and records data from a variety of gauges, meters and other measuring devices; establishes operating control parameters.
Inspects equipment to determine if it is functioning properly; changes charts as required; performs minor maintenance tasks, (e.g., lubricates equipment, cleans, washes and changes filters; cleans and repairs screens, grids, chemical unloading equipment, etc.); assists in the repair of major equipment.
Unloads chemicals into storage area; mixes chemicals as required.
