Job description
The Terrestrial Program Manager will supervise a staff of Wildlife Specialists, Wildlife Habitat Construction Technicians and/or other personnel. Will engage in complex wildlife research, management and/or environmental studies in the field and laboratory.
- Coordinates and monitors wildlife study plans, programs and procedures.
- Provides coordination inside and outside the agency to ensure successful wildlife program implementation.
- Develops and administers wildlife programs and is responsible for strategic planning.
- Supervises, coaches, mentors and trains subordinate personnel in wildlife science and management principles and functions.
- Ensures all program-related administrative matters, e.g., budget, finances, reports, and equipment maintenance etc. are appropriately handled.
- Programmatic activities include the Game, Non-Game and Landowner Relations program(s), Sonoran pronghorn recovery efforts, and regional wildlife water monitoring, maintenance and construction.
- Negotiates contracts, memorandums of understanding, intergovernmental agreements, etc.
- Participates on recovery teams and other work groups.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
The candidate will have knowledge in wildlife management; supervision; budget management and procurement; project management and development; report writing that will comply with federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations; and public relations including negotiation. The candidate will be skilled in leadership, coaching, mentoring, staff development and time management. The candidate will have the ability to coordinate with regional and Department personnel; multitask; train personnel; communicate; evaluate projects and make recommendations; design scientific studies and surveys; organize, facilitate, and represent the Department at public meetings, hearings, or other public forum; and be self-reliant.
The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in wildlife and/or a closely related field.

Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).
