About us

University Physicians of Brooklyn, Inc., represents the faculty of SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, Brooklyn’s only academic medical center. The X-Ray Technologist is an integral member of the patient care team, reporting to the Practice Manager and taking radiographic images under physician supervision, for multiple physicians working in the clinic at a particular time. This position is responsible for preparing patients for images, performing x-rays, and maintaining equipment as directed. It performs radiographic examinations at a technical level without requiring constant supervision of technical detail. It also performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed radiation for imaging diagnosis. This team member is responsible for designated areas or procedures as required.

  • Determine individual technique for prescribed examination and position patient properly.
  • Read and interpret physician orders.
  • Perform exams in accordance with established protocols, where applicable.
  • Properly shield patients for all examinations.
  • Produce quality radiographs with correct patient ID and markings, regardless of volume.
  • Review and evaluate images to ensure satisfactory quality.
  • Maintain the ALARA radiation safety principle.
  • Maintain clean examination room and equipment.
  • Communicate with patients requiring examination and procedures, and provide reassurance as necessary.
  • Perform identification procedure by verbally confirming with the patient before beginning a procedure.
  • Register patients, enter orders, and track patients using the Radiology Information System (RIS).
  • Ensure all exams are completed immediately in RIS and verify on PACS.
  • When necessary, burn CDs and DVDs.
  • Educate staff and other personnel on the technical aspects of imaging processes and equipment.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Be flexible, as hours may change on as needed bases according to operating needs.
  • Perform other tasks as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate of Applied Science Degree or equivalent.
  • New York State License and ARRT registration required.
  • Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required.
  • Previous x-ray procedure work experience in private practice or hospital setting preferred.
