Job Title: Youth Sports Coach - CARA Track (Temporary)

Department: Parks, Trails, and Recreation

Supervisor Title: Recreation Coordinator

Salary: $21.00 per hour.

This is a part-time, temporary position and is not eligible for benefits.

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

The primary function of this position is to teach children and young adults between the ages of 5 -15 years old basic track skills, rules and create a positive experience for all participants. This position supervises participants at all track meets and works with league to fulfill requirements or running events.

ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS:


A. Practices

  • Plan, direct, and supervise all practices.

B. Track Meets

  • Supervise participants at all track meets. Act as liaison between the league and parents; ensure all necessary equipment is available, set up and properly functioning. Recruit volunteer parents as needed to assist as score keepers, timers, team managers, etc. Provide feedback to parents and program supervisor. Ensure safety regulations and procedures are adhered to.
  • Must have personal transportation to practices, track meets and meetings.

C. Meetings

  • Attend all coaches’ meetings.

D. Schedule

  • Practices will start the week of June 5th and run twice a week working with the head Coaches’ schedule.
  • Track meets are on Saturdays 7:30 am - 3:00 pm in June and July.

E. Transportation

  • Must at least be 18 years of age and have access to personal transportation.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge and Ability Requirements:

Knowledge of:

  • Must have technical knowledge of the sport(s) in which the coach is hired.

Ability to:

  • Be able to physically lead and demonstrate skill/activity.
  • Work tactfully with parents, motivate students in a positive way, communicate effectively with the public and co-workers. Make quick decisions when needed, enforce established rules and regulations and be able to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions, and the ability to issue clear concise verbal and/or written instructions to volunteers and other employees.

Experience Requirements:

  • Working with children and young adults between the ages of 5 -15 years old.
  • Coaching or participating in Track and Field sports.
  • CPR, First Aid and AED certification preferred.

Equipment Utilized:

  • All track equipment

Contact with Others:

  • External contact with user groups or individuals and the public. Internal contact with other Department representatives that coordinate activities.

Supervisory Requirements:

  • Required to supervise volunteers and Recreation Aides.
