This position is located at Faulkner Place, a secure residential treatment facility. The schedule for this position is Sunday through Thursday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. A shift differential may also be included, depending on the shift you work. Swing shifts are provided with a shift pay differential in addition to the hourly wage, so when clocking in; swing provided an additional .50 cents in addition to the hourly wage.


The secure programs are locked residential facilities with a higher level of staffing than most residential facilities, including 24-hour nursing care. As a transitional program specializing in assisting individuals in moving to more independent levels of support and structure, there is a strong emphasis on community reintegration, including a comprehensive rehabilitation program that includes therapy and skills-building groups, dual-diagnosis treatment, nutrition and exercise, a vocational training program, and staff-escorted community outings. One primary goal of this program is preparing the individual for a less restrictive environment. Staff include a combination of on-site Qualified Mental Health Professionals, Qualified Mental Health Associates, physician, nurse, and other positions sufficient to meet the rehabilitation, treatment, security, recreational, and mental health needs of the residents, as identified in their service plans, on a 24-hour basis.


The Secure Medication Services Coordinator is responsible for medication room related services at the assigned facility. This includes providing day to day provision of medication administration, PCP care coordination services, as well as quality assurance and oversight of the medication services performed on site. This position involves program procedure development and treatment plan implementation of an established population of individuals who experience severe and persistent mental illness.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the administration, documentation, and evaluation of the medication management program. Train, coach, and consult with all Secure Residential Treatment Specialists who dispense medication.
  • Oversee the medication administration room, this includes conducting inventory, supply orders, and ensuring that all necessary tools and materials are available.
  • Conduct periodic audits of medication room services to ensure quality of service, and documentation compliance with all applicable internal and external regulations. Identify and recommend program improvements as necessary.
  • Maintain timely and effective coordination and communication with site medical staff (LMP and nurse); schedule resident appointments, follow through on medication orders, coordinate client consultations, and disseminate key treatment issues.
  • Provide leadership and primary oversight for MAR completion, ‘Cycle Fill’ documentation/ordering, pharmacy coordination and communication, as well as narcotic medication handling procedures.
  • Schedule medical services appointments, with primary care providers, specialists, dental services, and hospital emergency departments.
  • Coordinate with LMP, and clinical leadership for effective provision of self-administered medication education and skills building curriculum for all residents, including provision of direct training to residents.
  • Document all services in a professional manner using the agency EMR system.
  • Carry partial or total responsibility for developing and implementing assigned operational functions within the medication room.
  • Provide positive role modeling and mentoring to peers while fostering a client centered approach by developing, maintaining, and advancing the consistent use of clinical best practices.
  • Participate in program development and trainings.
  • Provide input on programmatic documentation/ procedural requirements.
  • Provide oversight and continuity of care, as well as communication and task assignment specific to medication-related issues during all staff/team meetings, shift changes, and related procedures.
  • Provide input toward the therapeutic treatment plan in collaboration with the case manager.
  • Complete annual employee training requirements on a timely basis as indicated in the licensing requirements for the facility as well as agency requirements

Qualifications

  • Must meet the requirements and demonstrate the competencies to be credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA). Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a behavioral science field from an accredited college or university or three years of mental health work experience or a combination of work experience and education. Certification must be current and in compliance with MHACBO.
  • Experience working with adults who experience severe and persistent mental illness preferred.
  • Understanding of components of maintaining a Trauma Informed Care environment.
  • Operate computer hardware and software at a level needed to effectively perform job functions
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data
  • Ability to prepare simple reports

Working Conditions


  • Work will be performed in a secure (locked) residential setting. The nature of the work dictates that the employee is alert and attentive during his or her assigned shift. Rest breaks and meal periods are subject to interruption. Periodically, staff may be required to work a double shift if the need arises, due to the staffing requirements within each program. There is moderate to high risk of personal injury/illness due to violent behavior, exposure to disease, biohazards, noise and contaminants.
  • Mental Demands: The work assigned is diverse and involves addressing new and unusual circumstances in which outcomes may negatively affect costs, employee morale or clients. The work regularly involves a degree of unpredictability and disruption of planned tasks requiring a flexible time management approach.
  • Physical Demands: Activities and structure support community integration assist program residents in learning socially acceptable behaviors. Employee must be approved to provide transportation utilizing agency vehicles so that residents may access the community. The Secure Medication Services Coordinator must also have the ability to assist residents in participating in a variety of active leisure and recreational events, as well as skill building outings and accessing community resources. The Secure Medication Services Coordinator must have the ability to assist the team in providing safety to all residents and staff in potentially volatile situations.
