Job description

ABOUT THE COMPANY:

Founded in 2001, our firm provides cradle to grave I.T. support for small businesses with high reliability computing needs. We design, build, manage and support small-ish (ranging from 5-250 node) windows domain-based networks for local small business clients; many of whom are in the medical/dental industry. We are seeking to find techs that possess Windows-based Domain and Networking skills.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR (requirements):

Applicant should have experience performing solo deployments of production-level windows servers from scratch. Building domains, configuring security, performing database migrations, configuring services and roles. As a Lead, applicant must have demonstrated experience working in a team setting: completing tasks assigned by the CTO, while delegating tasks, supervising and mentoring desktop technicians and interns. Aside from technical abilities, we are seeking a candidate that is familiar and comfortable working on multiple projects simultaneously.

- Minimum 5 years of compensated, full-time computer technical support experience. School/Class time can be used to substitute for up to two years of this requirement. (3 years real work experience in addition to your degree)

- Minimum 2 of those years with heavy exposure to:

  • Windows Servers, Active Directory, administrative knowledge of databases, server backup systems, and everything else required to deploy, migrate, and troubleshoot servers.
  • Firewalls, VPNs, deployment, managing rules, diagnosis, and troubleshooting.
  • Virtualization and management of virtual machines (HyperV preferred)
  • Core networking: in-depth understanding of subnetting, local DNS, DHCP, global DNS - MX, SPF, and email routing as it pertains to domain names.
  • Office365 Exchange management.

Please note the absence of education and certification requirements. You either know this stuff, or you don't. Interview process will be concluded with an in-person lab assessment where you will be asked to demonstrate your knowledge in real-world scenarios. If you plan is to BS or sweet-talk your way through the interview, please don't waste our time.

JOB DUTIES:

As a Lead Technician, you will be:

- Providing Tier 3 technical support for issues beyond the skill level of junior technicians; mentoring them into figuring out solutions, providing feedback on their troubleshooting process, etc.

- Working on more complex projects such as configuring and troubleshooting DFS, IPSec and OpenVPN, firewall rules, server migrations, database upgrades, virtualization, etc.

- Project-managing and executing larger deployments of network equipment: ensuring that correct parts are ordered, assembled, tested, pre-configured and deployed per specifications.

NON-TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Good at working with customer face-to-face and phone in a positive and friendly manner.

- Professional appearance.

- Some onsite travel - you must own a presentable vehicle.

- You must be completely smoke-free. We work in highly sensitive medical environments. Smoke odor is completely unacceptable here.

- Speak, read and write clear English.

- Great attitude, high energy and desire to learn.

- Maintain a pulse.

HOURS:

We are here from 7:30am to 6pm M-F; your shift will fit somewhere in there.

Lead techs do take turns at carrying an on-call phone, which typically gets 1-2 off-hours calls per week but very rarely results in issues that require more than 15-30m.

As a Lead there will be times when emergent work bleeds into off-hours, or there are tasks that cannot be performed during production times. We foster a culture of teamwork where leads fairly share this kind of workload with an aim to keep it to a minimum.

WHY WORK HERE:
We've been around for 22 years and have retained many of our early clients. The company is very profitable and your job will never be dependent on the next round of angel funds, a loan, or an approval of a grant.

The owner is a tech (not a sales guy or accountant) who came up through the ranks and knows first hand what it's line in the trenches. Technicians will never be asked to sell or push product. We do not have quotas or arbitrary performance goals. The company is well-organized with procedures, knowledge base and an awesome in-house helpdesk system. We foster mentorship from within - there is no silo-ing of knowledge or information. Your first review is typically done at 90 days and twice per year after that.

We offer excellent healthcare benefits (including $0 cost telehealth) after 60 days of employment.

There aren't eight bosses between you and the owner, so discussing any gripes, good ideas, or new procedures is handled directly.

We work exclusively with other businesses - we do not service home users and chances of having to clean dog urine out a laptop are very low.

Upward mobility is plentiful by entering the leadership core, profit-sharing and advancement to take over the owner's duties. The company is transitioning to a partnership model with stock offerings and options to buy into the ownership structure of the firm.

About 5 years ago we purposely moved our office from Seattle, to Burien. Burien provides for a better commute, free parking, much lower cost of living, great highway access and a vibrant downtown with many lunch or after-work happy hour options.

You will be provided with a desk, a chair and office computer. Maybe a phone. A window from which squirrel sightings might take place, may or may not be available. If you require a red Swingline stapler, please bring your own.

Ron Swanson will be your boss.
