Transportation Mechanics Supervisor

Salary: $61,676.34 (239 workdays)

Purpose Statement
The job of Supervisor of Vehicle Maintenance is done for the purpose/s of providing mechanical maintenance for all district vehicles and grounds equipment with specific responsibility for identifying repair and/or replacement needs; ensuring completion of projects in accordance with trade standards and safety regulations; serving as a resource to others; and implementing and maintaining services within established guidelines and standards.
This job reports to Director of Transportation
Essential Functions
Assesses incidents, complaints, accidents and/or potential emergency situations for the purpose of resolving or recommending a resolution to the situation.
Diagnoses major repair work on all district vehicles and heavy equipment for the purpose of determining needed repairs and/or replacements.
Implements policies, procedures and/or processes for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
Maintains positive relations with staff, administrators and patrons for the purpose of communicating information, gaining feedback and support with relevant issues.
Maintains records of repairs, costs, vehicle warranties, etc. for the purpose of documenting required information and meeting regulatory requirements.
Monitor departments operating budget for the purpose of providing direction and/or complying with mandated requirements.
Oversees mechanics, parts attendants, upholstery and other assigned personnel for the purpose of ensuring that assignments are completed in a in compliance within established guidelines.
Prepares a variety of manual and electronic reports (e.g. repair and maintenance logs, parts lists, warranty claims, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and meeting mandated requirements.
Supports the Director for the purpose of assisting in evaluation, training and staff development of assigned staff.
Uses automation tools to perform maintenance management on all equipment for the purpose of increasing productivity and meeting departmental objectives in an efficient and timely manner.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices; operating school buses and/or district vehicles; operating tools/equipment used in maintenance of vehicles; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: methods of maintaining vehicles; methods of storage and removal of hazardous materials; and safety practices and procedures.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to independently work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating with diverse groups; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities; and working with interruptions.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; directing other persons within a department, large work unit, and/or across several small work units; utilization of resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent climbing and balancing, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 40% sitting, 25% walking, and 35% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Experience: Job related experience within a specialized field is required.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
