Job description
About SELF, Inc.
Self, Inc. is a non-profit organization providing services to some of Philadelphia’s most vulnerable communities for over 30 years. We offer a broad range of essential housing, social service, drug and alcohol treatment, vocational, and employment programs to support individuals to achieve self-sufficiency and sustain healthier lives (or improve their quality of life). We provide these services to more than 7,000 individuals within the Philadelphia area.
Our mission is to motivate, empower, and inspire individuals to live their best lives. Our approach uses best practices and evidence-based programming with compassion at its core to pave the way for personal and community transformation.
We strongly believe that every person has the right to safe, affordable, permanent housing; earn a livable wage; be connected to family; be connected to the community, and achieve successful independent living through personal development and transformation. We also believe that by addressing social determinants of health, we can improve outcomes and reduce homelessness, substance use/abuse, and incarceration. As part of our holistic approach to social change, SELF is unswerving in its work to eradicate homelessness in Philadelphia. It serves as a national model for innovative programming to assist those experiencing or on the verge of experiencing homelessness.
SELF has 175 employees and operates 12 emergency housing programs and 36 permanent supportive housing sites. Our eight (8) emergency housing sites include Ife Wellness Center, Station House, Outley House, Susquehanna House (3 houses), Safe Haven, and Richard Jones Recovery House. Our four (4) emergency housing programs include After-Hours/Winter Initiative night-by-night placement for men, the Phoenix Community Center (a day respite community hub), Way Home (a rapid rehousing program for underserved communities with a focus on LGBTQ communities), and an outreach program connecting individuals experiencing street homelessness to critical housing, behavioral and mental health-related services.
Our emergency housing program sites are located in North and Southwest Philadelphia, in areas highly impacted by overdose deaths, food insecurity, senseless violence, undiagnosed trauma, and other social challenges. In addition, SELF’s permanent supportive housing sites include Ujima House and SELF + Cooperative, which is comprised of 35 scattered housing sites and uses an innovative, shared housing approach.
