Summary:

Boulder Medical Center (BMC) is currently seeking a Accounts Payable / Payroll Specialist to join our Accounting Team! This position is benefit eligible working full-time 40 hours per week Monday-Friday.

  • Experience working in both primary care and specialty care clinics.

Job Duties:

  • Processes and transmits employee payroll, and acts as a back-up for processing and transmitting physician payroll, in an accurate and timely manner. Maintains complete confidentiality of all payroll-related information.
  • Establishes and maintains a working knowledge of the processing steps and requirements of using the outside payroll service. Demonstrates an understanding of all payroll software and investigates payroll issues. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the time clock and time clock software system.
  • Codes and enters employee payroll master file input data (i.e., changes to taxes, withholdings, bank accounts, etc.) and verifies accuracy.
  • Enters and updates retirement plan eligibility.
  • Develops and maintains an in-depth understanding of all payroll reports.
  • Reviews outside payroll service reports to ensure accuracy.
  • Assists and advises department heads and unit coordinators on making time sheet adjustments.
  • Works closely with Human Resources on FMLA cases to determine pay.
  • Calculates the cost of benefit payroll deductions upon employee separation or status change dates.
  • Maintains second pay rates and alternate role differentials.
  • Reviews and approves all information changes sent through the Employee Self Service portal (ESS) such as address changes, W4’s, name changes, etc. prior to processing payroll.
  • Based on security level parameters set by the HR Manager and the Staff Accountant, assigns appropriate level of security access within the ESS.
  • Reviews Paid Time Off (PTO) and Extended Illness Account (EIA) reports for accuracy, ensuring accruals are working correctly.
  • Performs other payroll processing duties as assigned.
  • Processes employment verifications.

Experience and Skills:
  • Must use good judgement in identifying appropriate coding needed for accurate computer input and for identifying sources of error and making adjustments.
  • Must be professional and have a flexible attitude toward changing priorities and schedules.
  • Willingness to prepare and research special projects.
  • Must have working knowledge of computers, computerized accounting systems and Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations as they apply to payroll accounting.
  • Working knowledge of accounting and payroll methods, procedures and reconciliations.
  • Must be detail-oriented and able to follow directions and work well under deadlines.

Education:

  • Associates degree in Accounting or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Previous Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in general accounting (or bookkeeping) to include some experience in a payroll function.

Salary:

  • $20.19 - $26.00 / hour; depending on experience
