SHC is hiring an Activity Director

The activity director will supervise, plan, schedules and carries out a complete program of activities. Programs activities of a recreational, diversional, religious, intellectual, and service or “work-oriented” nature that meets the individual resident’s needs.

Job Description
  • Accountable for the supervision of planning and implementation of a well-balanced activity program including (but not limited to) arts and crafts, recreation, religious activities, service projects and trips into the community.
  • Interacts with other services to assess and evaluate patient needs, capabilities, and responses to their participation in activities programs. Develops care plans and appropriate individual activity participation goals.
  • Escorts residents to and from special activity areas, including off-campus trips, observing safety precautions and assisting in providing for the personal needs and control of residents while participating in all aspects of the activity program.
  • Makes observations of residents’ behaviors and informs nursing staff of significant changes in their behavior, reactions, or progress.
  • Prepares materials and makes appropriate preparations for activities.
  • Is responsible for the care and maintenance of supplies, equipment, and activity facilities.
  • Maintains accurate daily attendance records, charts monthly progress notes, documents meaningful residents’ responses to activity program, and determines goals for each individual.
  • Participates in in-service training programs as a teacher and learner. Attends educational programs outside the facility as assigned, including 10 CEUs annually in an ongoing basis.
  • Performs other duties as special circumstances demand.
  • Supervises Activity Assistants.
  • Supervises a volunteer program that supplements the activity program.

Qualifications
  • Minimum formal education to include completion of four years of high school, diploma or GED
  • Minimum of one-year work experience in a related field or volunteer work in a related field
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance
  • Must pass the Illinois Activity Professionals Certification process
  • Basic computer skills including knowledge of Point Click Care software, Microsoft Office software, and the ability to navigate internet search engines
