Position SummaryWorks under close supervision over the course of a one to two year term, to assist in a variety of departmental objectives designed for launching a career in health care administration. Projects may include the providing of leadership in process improvement initiatives, budget preparations, revenue cycle improvements, operational analysis, service line initiatives, process flow impact and/or strategic planning.
Experience and Education
Bachelor’s degree required.
Must be enrolled in a Master’s degree program.
Relevant work experience in business administration or healthcare a plus.
Job Duties
Areas of focus may include:
Healthcare system and environments in which health services are provided (legal, financial, policy, provider and public health).
Gains exposure to business planning, regulatory laws, operational and budgeting through various meetings.
Meets with and shadows managers from various support services in the department to understand how key aspects of operations including patient flow and safety is being enhanced through support services.
Assists a unit to witness the patient care operations that takes place daily.
Observe the various initiatives and daily problem solving nurses employ to ensure that patients are receiving the best possible care.
Spends time with support services, imaging suite, lab, and/or rehabilitation to gain exposure to the various functions and services provided by ancillary departments.
Analyze effects and implications of health policy on providers, payers and populations.
Establish goals and objectives for improving health outcomes.
Management through the planning, development and monitoring required to establish and achieve organizational goals.
Apply key accounting principles to prepare, monitor and manage budgets. Utilize and apply key models and methods for the effective implementation and outcome of operations, population health, work force and health services management.
Attends and presents at meetings at every layer of the department, ranging from the faculty meetings to section-based daily meetings, to understand how management decisions affect frontline operations and vice versa.
Plans and executes projects for an assigned clinical space to understand the patient care continuum while gaining exposure to the managerial and strategic challenges at the care delivery-line level.
Participates in trainings for managers to learn all aspects of management including scheduling, revenue cycle management, and human resource management.
Residents may collaborate with participants from an assigned area to complete a Lean project.

Own and actively execute one or two strategic initiatives.
Develop new ideas and identify opportunities to enhance organizational change.
Develop team-oriented structures and systems to promote team performance, support team process and goal achievement.
Articulate and communicate the mission, objectives, and priorities of the organization to internal and external stakeholders and entities.
Relationship management to influence individuals and groups to take action in the pursuit of organizational goals.
Develop and maintain collaborative relationships and shared decision-making with key leaders, colleagues, and stakeholders to achieve organization and personal goals.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Work requires proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Work requires ability to effectively interpret and apply organizational policies, procedures, and systems.
Work requires good interpersonal, organizational, supervisory, and analytical skills.
Work requires ability to communicate clearly. Work may require telephone and personal contact with all levels of internal and external personnel and organizations.
