What is the SolarCorps Fellowship Program…

GRID Alternatives’ SolarCorps Fellowship Program is an opportunity for highly motivated and enthusiastic people to join GRID Alternatives for an 11-month paid service term (approx. $33,004 total + benefits). In this position, you’ll gain valuable experience in the renewable energy and non-profit industries while making significant contributions to communities most impacted by environmental and economic injustice!

The Opportunity...
We are seeking a full-time SolarCorps Construction Design Fellow to engage with the construction team in residential solar PV Design. Construction SolarCorps members will serve directly on GRID's low-income solar installation projects, helping complete all aspects of installation including system design, permitting, installation of solar panel systems, approval, and utility interconnection. The fellow will split their training between solar PV design and hands-on solar installation. All Construction SolarCorps Fellows will gain a broad range of skills and experience to qualify for a range of different solar construction careers.
  • Receive training on solar PV installation, service calls, and site visits
  • Receive comprehensive training in all aspects of single-family residential solar PV design and permitting
  • Learn how to stage and load equipment before and after installation projects
  • Assist staff with preliminary designs and permit packs
  • Help organize and maintain project information in Salesforce
  • Perform site assessments, shade analysis, production modeling, etc.
  • Produce design plan sets and permit packs, submit permit applications
  • Help organize and maintain project information in Salesforce
What you need to bring to this role…
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • 11-month commitment and complete 1700 hours
  • To be eligible for AmeriCorps, applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the United States.
  • High computer literacy
  • Ability to learn and retain new concepts and technology quickly
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Able to work outdoors, on rooftops, and in extreme temperatures
  • A passion for environmental justice and clean energy
  • Willingness to learn skills on the job
  • Be comfortable in working with diverse communities
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ultra-organized with demonstrated success juggling multiple demands
  • Clean, valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • When working remotely, you must have access to reliable internet. GRID will provide a laptop, charger, and headset when remote working is required.

It would be great if you also had…

  • Strong math skills
  • Previous experience with drawing / design software
  • Previous solar experience or a functional understanding of solar energy systems
  • Conversational speaking ability in languages other than English

  • $35,200 stipend for 11 months (Mon, Sept 18, 2023 - Thurs August 15, 2024)

What will be your schedule...

California Locations: hired candidates must be able to pass a screening for drugs that are illegal in the state of California, including: amphetamine, cocaine metabolite, opiates, and PCP.
