We are professional, fast-paced, supportive and our goal is to Founded in 1964, the Humane Society of the Nature Coast, Inc is a private, no time limit, 501c(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and health of orphaned, surrendered, and abandoned pets. All pets who reside at the shelter or in a HSNC approved foster home are spayed or neutered, have age-appropriate vaccines, and receive parasite prevention. We work every day to find alternatives to save lives and find forever homes for homeless pets. We are proud to serve the people and animals of the Nature Coast , which includes Hernando, Pasco, and Citrus counties, with a variety of programs and services..

Job Summary:

An animal care technician’s job includes many aspects of caring for animals and may include feeding, grooming, cleaning, exercising, observing, and providing companionship. Animal care technicians have an important role in preserving the human-companion animal bond. Animals that are handled and cared for with respect and compassion for their needs, and who live without hunger, pain, or fear, are more likely to form relationships with humans based on trust. Providing for the basic needs of companion animals, whether adored or abandoned, is nonetheless essential, and animal care technicians put their heart into their work.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Exercise and groom animals as needed.
• Sanitizes all work areas of the shelter per HSNC procedures.
• Cleaning cat cages and dog runs per HSNC procedures.
• Cleaning all dishes, filling food and water dishes per HSNC procedures.
• Assists public in the viewing of animals
• Be familiar with the animals in the care of HSNC and their individual needs.
• Bring any animal health issues or injuries to the attention of manager or veterinary technician.
• Maintains animal shelter, including the grounds and equipment.
• Assist in any duty or need of other staff members needing assistance.
• Maintains safe and effective work environment and complies with animal shelter procedures, policies, rules, and regulations.
• Any other duties as assigned by management.

Job-Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to understand proper sanitization techniques and apply them to cleaning and maintenance of an animal shelter environment.
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently with cleaning products and tools.
• Must be able to recognize sick or injured animals and notify proper authority.
• Capability to comprehend and execute verbal and written instruction.
• High School diploma or GED required.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Positive attitude is a must.
• Professional, courteous, and friendly manner.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Must be available to work weekends and holidays.
• Must love animals and have a strong desire to work with them.
• Previous experience with animals helpful.
• Must be flexible team player committed to the welfare of animals.
• Excellent communication, organizational skills, and the drive to create an efficient environment to support animal adoptions.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $11.00 - $12.00 per hour
