Description

GENERAL PURPOSE: The Associate Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid awarding process and is a key member of the Enrollment Management team. The person in this position has direct hands-on work with electronic delivery of critical information in the financial aid award process with Continuing and Graduate students, state and federal agencies.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: The Associate Director of Financial Aid reports directly to the Director of Financial Aid.


Responsibilities
  • Financial Aid Awarding Process
    • Prepare financial aid packages for Continuing and Graduate students.
    • Participate in and present special conditions requests and recommendations to appeals committee.
    • Perform verification on Continuing and Graduate student files
    • Monitor funds throughout the awarding cycle
    • Review and assign University endowments to eligible students.
    • Review and assign OFIC scholarships and maintain records of completed Thank You letters.
    • Works collaboratively with other University offices to apply scholarships and develop tuition payment contracts.
    • Veterans Certifying Official –administers VA benefits to prospective and current students.
    • Administer consortium agreements for study abroad and nursing program students.
  • Financial Aid Counseling
    • Meet with parents and students during campus visits or special appointments
    • Answer questions via phone calls and emails
    • Present at local High School’s Financial Aid Night Programs
    • Talk with on campus students on a walk-in basis
    • Attend on campus functions for various programs to speak on Financial Aid
    • Process corrections and reconciliation for eligible students.
  • Office Management:
    • Maintain oversight of Perkins Loan program closeout.
    • Present at local High School’s Financial Aid Night Programs
    • Talk with on campus students on a walk-in basis
    • Attend on campus functions for various programs to speak on Financial Aid
    • Other relevant duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid and Vice President for Enrollment Management.
  • Professional Development:
    • Participate in appropriate professional development activities which represent both the profession and the University at the most effective level.
    • Participate in appropriate University committee and work group activities.
Qualifications

Education and Professional Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant financial aid experience
Preferred Experience
  • Master’s degree
  • Five (5) or more years of progressive financial aid experience
  • Experience with financial aid awarding and leveraging strategy
  • Strong working knowledge of Ellucian Banner and Argos software

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED: Knowledge of operation and use of various office equipment including, but not limited to: personal computer, including spreadsheet, word processing software, and integrated database program, fax machine, copier, telephone, scanner, and printers. Employee in this position must have a valid driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently required to use arms, hands and fingers to operate and manipulate equipment generally found in an office setting. The employee may be frequently required to be mobile, communicate, and hear. The employee may occasionally be subject to a variety of outdoor environmental conditions including heat, cold, and precipitation.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Mental demands include varied degrees of occasional stress while performing job duties.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee frequently works in an office setting, educational facilities including sports and entertainment venues all of which may be indoor or outdoor. The noise level in the work environment is representative of an office setting and will range from moderately quiet to occasionally loud.
