Position Summary:

  • Manage a comprehensive system that evaluates, monitors, and tracks all field experiences
  • Develop and maintain field experience related educator preparation materials (handbooks, guides, informational literature, etc.)
  • Coordinate overseas internship placements through Consortium for Oversees Student Teaching (COST) program
  • Prepare and present reports relative to field experiences

Position: Director of Field Experiences and Clinical Practice, 12 month Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure track)

The College of Education at The University of Alabama is seeking a Clinical Assistant Professor to coordinate and monitor all clinical experiences in the P-12 schools, provide training and support for assessment and evaluation processes and procedures to College of Education students, faculty, and P-12 teachers, serve as a liaison to P-12 schools, and manage a comprehensive tracking system for field experiences and clinical practice. Because much of the work detailed in this position entails monitoring progress, evaluating school sites, identifying quality personnel, and developing field experience materials, the appointment requires someone who possesses good practical and theoretical knowledge of the teaching/learning situation, as well as someone who is committed to the ideals fairness, diversity, collaboration and reflection within professional practice.

This position is a full-time 12 month, non-tenure track, renewable clinical appointment. This position will be renewed every three years based on performance and funding.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Earned doctoral degree in an area of (P-12) professional educator preparation
  • Minimum 3 years of experience teaching in P-12 schools or other professional educator positions P-12
  • Minimum 1 year professional experience at the higher education level
  • Knowledge of Alabama State Dept. of Education standards and certification requirements
  • Experience with supervision of teacher interns/student teachers/ other professional educator interns
  • Ability to develop and maintain database applications
  • Ability to develop and present workshops related to clinical placements and assessments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty , P-12 teachers, and other professional educators, principals, and superintendents
  • Proven effective collaboration with P-12 schools and colleagues

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with supervision of office staff
  • Alabama Class B, A, or AA professional educator certificate
  • Teaching experience in Alabama P-12 schools
  • Proven effective leadership/administrative skills
  • Experience working with digitized student management systems
