The David Rubenstein Forum is a University-wide facility for scholarly and academic discourse on campus. The venue supports and promotes inquiry, the open exchange of ideas, and the power of academic, interdisciplinary convening. The Forum is located at the intersection of East 60th Street and Woodlawn Avenue. It serves as a place where scholars gather and exchange ideas through activities that range from talks and workshops to multi-day conferences that span academic disciplines. The facility provides spaces and amenities that are not currently available on campus, including highly collaborative, well-appointed meeting and event rooms commensurate with the types of conferences, special events, workshops, and meetings that University faculty and academic departments host. The building has a sustainable design target of LEED Gold.

What you will have an opportunity to do:

Basic Function: Assume leadership role in production and execution of Department in the absence of a F&B Manager. Maintain a commitment for guest service and employee development. Maintain the highest quality while having an understanding for expediting service.

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, & WORK EXPERIENCE:

❖ Must have the ability to effectively communicate with staff.

❖ Self-starter and team player.

❖ Ability to meet standards of appearance.

❖ Can communicate well with guests.

❖ Ability to transport up to 30 lbs. through a crowded room on a continuous basis throughout the shift.

❖ Must be willing to “pitch-in” and help co workers with their job duties and be a team player.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Check server and house person banquet event orders and diagrams to ensure that all information is accurate.
  • Check room set-up to see that banquet event order directions are completely followed. Ensure that all public areas are neat and clean.
  • Ensure uniform and personal appearance of all staff.
  • Make contact with group representatives. Explain how to make contact if needed throughout the function.
  • Communicate all banquet event order changes to catering or convention services office and affected departments.
  • Will serve as representative for Banquet Department at BEO and/or Event Meetings if Dining Manager is unavailable.
  • Coordinate with banquet staff set-ups, changes and time schedules for all functions.
  • Verify staffing levels for the next day's functions. Adjust schedules accordingly through the addition or cancellation of servers/bartender/housepersons.
  • Operate as a banquet server when needed; setting-up, greeting and serving the guest and breaking-down the function.
  • Inspect banquet areas at end of function to ensure all equipment is returned to its proper area and all areas are clean.
  • Post all banquet checks at end of day and turn in to Accounting.
  • Comply with attendance rules and be available to work on a regular basis.
  • Warmly and cordially meet group contacts immediately so they know who to speak with for any requests or concerns.
  • Inspect food for quality and “eye appeal” prior to serving. Keep open communication with the kitchen staff, informing them of any changes or special instructions.
  • Learn the names and personally recognize our regular customers and customers.
  • Perform any other job related duties as assigned.
