Contract Period: Academic-year position, 186 days, salaried, exempt
Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Education or Psychology. Board Certification as Behavior Specialist and/or Analyst. Strong knowledge of adolescent development, behavior, substance misuse, trauma, family dynamics and community resources. Ability to provide crisis prevention and intervention in a school setting. Ability to run student centered activities and programs without supervision. Experience in group work and secondary education is a plus. Ability to work independently in addition to working with a team of specialized personnel on higher level student interventions. Skilled at oral and written communications and inter-systemic coordination of services.
Services ● Develop and implement a behavioral program consisting of best practices, procedures and strategies. ● Provide leadership, guidance, and professional development to the PA Community to support positive behavior. ● Work in collaboration with teams which may include administration, faculty, students and parents/guardians. ● Work closely with Administration, 4S Team, SS Teams and faculty in providing support and developing behavior/intervention plans and strategies for students identified with behavior concerns. ● Create behavior/intervention plans for all identified behavior populations that include strategies that will decrease interfering behaviors to be reviewed and signed off by School Psychologist prior to implementing. ● Record, monitor, collect and analyze data on behavior/intervention strategies and plans put in place for identified students and to monitor and report out on progress/success. ● Be an essential resource to help create and expand tiered intervention systems and positive behavior school wide. ● Identify outside resources including National, State and local organizations to be collaborative with on processes, policies, trends and current strategies. ● Works collaboratively with school counselors, social workers, school psychologists, teachers, administrators and special education personnel, to identify the current needs of struggling students, and design and implement effective programming to address such needs. ● Supports the School Counseling Department through assistance with student centered interventions, consultation, team meetings, PLCs, and other needs identified by the School Counseling Director in conjunction with the specialized student services and support team. ● Collaborates with parents/guardians, community agencies, legal system, DCYF, and other outside entities that may be involved in the support of a student. Engage in discussions regarding student academic progress, resolving behavioral, social- emotional, and other challenges as they arise, including addressing issues of truancy. ● Contributes to creating strength-based support services for students to improve organizational skills, task initiation, time management, coping skills and other factors that contribute to student success. ● Receives student referrals, triages, and makes proper connections with additional services to students as needed. ● Identifies obstacles that may impact a student’s ability to fully access their educational curriculum and achieve academic success. JD-Counselor Rev. 12/2021,6/2022 ● Attends weekly team meetings in the Freshmen Academy to assist in identifying students who may benefit from long term and consistent support services and prevention efforts. ● Identifies student service gaps through needs assessment efforts and works with Specialized Student Service and Support personnel and the School Counseling Department to create and implement new and/or transitional programming. ● Addressed appropriate medical concerns with the school nursing department, especially in regards to issues requiring attention by the mandated reporter laws. ● Maintains accurate and complete student records as required by law, district policies, and administrative regulations, and maintains appropriate confidentiality.
