Job Description:

The Biomedical Equipment Repair Technician services various equipment and apparatus, such as patient monitors, electrocardiographs, defibrillators, electro surgical units, anesthesia machines, pacemakers, blood-pressure monitors, diathermy equipment, in-house television systems, patient care computers, telephone stations and associated peripheral equipment, and other related technical systems. Repairs, calibrates, and maintains equipment, using hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and knowledge of manufacturers’ manuals, troubleshooting techniques, and preventive-maintenance schedules. Safety-tests medical equipment to ensure patient and staff safety from electrical or mechanical hazards. Consults with medical staff to ascertain that equipment functions properly and safely, utilizing knowledge of electronics, medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, chemistry, and physics. May demonstrate and explain correct operation of equipment of medical personnel. May not modify or develop instruments or devices

JOB DUTIES – Repairs, calibrates, and maintains medical equipment and instrumentation used in the healthcare delivery field. Inspects and installs medical and related technical equipment in the facility involved in researching, monitoring, diagnosing, and treating physical ailments or dysfunctions. The Bio-Med Technician will be responsible to maintain excellent customer relationships through effective customer service, communications, timely and efficient service and maintenance. Will enter and complete all documentation in a timely manner, and return and manage inventory, manage test equipment, Must be willing to travel. Must be team player. Adheres to assigned on call rotations. Knowledgeable of state/federal regulatory and accrediting agency guidelines for healthcare. Follows Hospital and Departmental Policies and Procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Must have Associate degree in Biomedical Engineering and or Electronic Technology or equivalent experience required.
  • Computer and Networking knowledge is preferred.

Supervised by the Coordinator of Biomedical Engineering. Performance evaluations are the responsibility of the Director or Engineering. They are conducted by the Coordinator of Biomedical Engineering at the end of the 3-month probationary period. Thereafter, on an annual basis.
