Position Title: Cafeteria Cook/Baker
Pay Grade: 4 Period of Employment: 9.1 months
Description Approved/ Revised: 9/2019 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Supervised by and/or Reports to: Cafeteria Manager; Cafeteria Manager-in-Training
General Responsibilities: Prepares and distributes food items, provides complete and accurate documentation and audit trails for meals served and food items purchased, and maintains food service facilities in a safe and sanitary condition.
Essential Duties:

Assists in the preparation and serving of food, as well as in the daily operation of the kitchen.- Inspects food items and work areas, checks hygiene and proper food temperatures to prevent food borne illnesses.
- Trains kitchen personnel in the safe, proper, and efficient use of all kitchen equipment and general kitchen operations.
- Maintains a neat and orderly kitchen with adherence to safety and cleanliness standards.
- Practices safe food handling by monitoring refrigeration and food temperatures.
- Collects payments for food items from students and staff utilizing the POS (point of sale) system, utilizes cash handling skills.
- Expedites the service line by keeping food servers well-stocked with prepared foods.
- Notifies the Cafeteria Manager of repairs needed to the equipment.
- Maintains accurate production records and daily records.
- Assists in forecasting by maintaining accurate daily and weekly records.
- Assist in all cafeteria activities as necessitated by the day’s workload.
- Supervises kitchen operations in the cafeteria manager’s absence, or as directed by the cafeteria manager or manager-in-training.
- Responds to inquiries of students and staff.
- Complies with health and food safety regulations.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of food preparation, kitchen operations, and equipment.- Ability to read and follow recipe directions.
- Ability to perform basic math functions.
- Exhibits good personal hygiene habits.
- Familiarity with health regulations and proper handling of food.
- Ability to multi-task and function well under pressure.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to maintain a courteous relationship with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds.
- Serve as role model.
Requisite Education and Experience:
Must be able to read and write.- A minimum of one (1) year of food preparation experience in a high-volume establishment required.
- School food service experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
