The Career Coach (CC) is responsible for providing career counseling services and instruction with CORE program participants. The CC must have the ability to make decisions; accurately assess a wide variety of situations to determine appropriate courses of action; manage multiple detailed tasks and priorities; and maintain confidentiality and build positive relationships with businesses. The CC is responsible for assisting participants with coordinating workplace and career readiness experiences and assisting participants by providing guidance and support to promote job retention and training credentials. The CC must be knowledgeable about the local and regional employment needs, trainings programs, and resources to assist participants in preparing and attaining their career goals and entry into employment in targeted sectors. The CC will aim to demonstrate the value and efficacy of well-thought approaches to incorporating soft skills, vocational training, continuing education, job placement, job coaching, and career advancement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meet individually with participants to determine specific skill level, professional interests, career goals (short/long-term), industry experience, and education/training needs.
  • Guide participants through assessments and create an individualized career plan.
  • Meet regularly with members of the outreach and partner development teams to match participants with opportunities.
  • Facilitate Career Job Readiness classes, assist with developing resumes and cover letters, identify opportunities for employment and assist with online application and interview processes.
  • Regularly meet one-on-one with participants for career counseling
  • Interface with employers and gather feedback to aid in the retention and successful employment, regular follow-up with employer after placement.
  • Maintain relationships with staffing agencies, including local One-Stops, to aid in matching participants with labor force needs.
  • Assist with identifying professionals to participate in industry specific interview panels, job shadowing, and internship opportunities.
  • Maintain records and documentation of career counseling and participant contact and progress
  • Enter career notes and progress in data collection system.
  • Coordinate supports that will assist the participant with attendance and participation in program activities and make referrals to partnering agencies as appropriate.
  • Must be very comfortable with public speaking and be able to communicate ideas, advice, feedback and critiques professionally and concisely in individual and group settings.
  • Ability to recognize weaknesses and develop plans to aid in personal career growth.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

The Career Coach will have a Bachelor’s degree in behavioral, social science, psychology, or human services, and/or five years’ experience with a focus on development and implementation of education, marketing, philanthropy, sales or partnership development with the proven outcomes. Experiences should include relevant experience in working in community collaboration activities, excellent communication skills (verbal and written), marketing and public engagement, public relations in the non-profit sector, and a strong desire to work in and with the public is essential. Desire to travel is a must. A valid driver’s license with reliable transportation is required. The Career Coach must have the ability to make decisions and understand the importance of strategic goals and implementation; accurately assess a wide variety of situation to determine appropriate courses of action; to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $38,000.00 per year
